Purpose: Traumatic brain injury and spinal cord injury impact all areas of individuals' quality of life. A synthesis of available evidence for the Traumatic Brain Injury Quality of Life (TBI-QoL) and Spinal Cord Injury Quality of Life (SCI-QoL) measurement systems could inform evidence-based clinical practice and research. Thus, we aimed to systematically review the literature of existing evidence on the measurement properties of SCI-QoL and TBI-QoL among rehabilitation populations.

Introduction: Health care professionals work in different contexts, which can influence professional competencies. Despite existing literature on the impact of context on practice, the nature and influence of contextual characteristics, and how context is defined and measured, remain poorly understood. The aim of this study was to map the breadth and depth of the literature on how context is defined and measured and the contextual characteristics that may influence professional competencies.

Introduction: Adolescents and young adults require age-appropriate healthcare services delivered by clinicians with expertise in adolescent medicine. However, resident family physicians report a low perceived self-efficacy and under-preparedness to deliver adolescent medical care. We conducted a scoping review to map the breadth and depth of the current evidence about adolescent medicine training for family medicine residents.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to compare clinical outcomes between peritoneal dialysis (PD) patients who had COVID-19 and a control group of PD patients without COVID-19, as there was limited data on this topic.
  • The research involved 223 patients (113 with COVID-19 and 110 controls) and found that while general characteristics were similar, the COVID-19 group had lower serum albumin and hemoglobin levels and more complications like respiratory symptoms and rehospitalization on day 28.
  • Over a 90-day period, mortality rates were low (1 death in the COVID-19 group), and although some health issues persisted for patients who had COVID-19, overall mortality did not significantly differ from the control group.

Rationale, Aims And Objectives: The Withdrawal Assessment Tool (WAT-1) is one of the most widely used clinician-reported outcome measures to evaluate iatrogenic withdrawal symptoms (IWS) in critically ill children. However, the WAT-1's measurement properties have not been aggregated. Aggregating psychometric research on the WAT-1 will enhance appropriate use, and outline gaps for future empirical research.

Documenting primate life history characteristics is important because it provides information about traits that affect the timing and rate of reproduction in these long-lived species. This study describes the hormonal correlates of female reproductive events and quantifies for the first time key life history variables for Colobus vellerosus, using hormonal and observational data. This study also biologically validates that the reproductive events determined in the hormone profiles correspond to observed reproductive events for each female.

Objective: Data on transplantation survival is widely available for developed countries where cadaveric transplantation is the dominant transplantation type. We aimed to assess patient and graft survival and to determine the possible factors affecting graft survival in a developing country where kidney transplantations were mainly performed from living donors.

Methods: We retrospectively analyzed data from 427 adult kidney transplantations performed at our center from January 1990 to November 2010.

Purpose: It is well established that diabetic peritoneal dialysis (PD) patients have a higher mortality rate than the other PD population. This study was designed to determine the overall predictors of survival and compared mortality and morbidity between diabetic and non-diabetic Turkish PD patients.

Methods: We conducted a multicenter retrospective study with 915 PD patients [217 had diabetes mellitus (DM)].

Background: Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of mortality among renal transplant recipients. In the general population, coronary artery calcification (CAC) and progression of CAC are predictors of future cardiac risk. We conducted a study to determine the progression of CAC in renal transplant recipients; we also examined the factors associated with progression and the impact of the analytic methods used to determine CAC progression.
