This study aimed to determine the within- and between-session reliability of ankle mechanics and vertical ground reaction forces (vGRF) during jump landings in turned-out and parallel foot positions in professional ballet dancers. Representative in vitro models that mimic the native bone tumor microenvironment are warranted to support the development of more successful treatments for bone metastases. Here, we have developed a primary cell 3D model consisting of a human osteoblast-derived tissue-engineered construct (hOTEC) indirectly co-cultured with patient-derived prostate cancer xenografts (PDXs), in order to study molecular interactions in a patient-derived microenvironment context. The engineered biomimetic microenvironment had high mineralization and embedded osteocytes, and supported a high degree of cancer cell osteomimicry at the gene, protein and mineralization levels when co-cultured with prostate cancer PDXs from a lymph node metastasis (LuCaP35) and bone metastasis (BM18) from patients with primary prostate cancer.

We aimed to identify differences in kicking leg and torso mechanics between groups of rugby place kickers who achieve different performance outcomes, and to understand why these features are associated with varying levels of success. Thirty-three experienced place kickers performed maximum effort place kicks, whilst three-dimensional kinematic (240 Hz) and ground reaction force (960 Hz) data were recorded. Place kicking is a complex whole-body movement that contributes 45% of the points scored in international Rugby Union. This study compared the kicking foot swing plane characteristics of accurate and inaccurate kickers, underpinned by differences in their support leg and pelvis kinematics at support foot contact, to identify key technique characteristics. Motion capture data (240 Hz) were collected from 33 experienced kickers, and distinct groups of accurate (n = 18) and inaccurate (n = 8) kickers were identified based on their performance characteristics.

The effects of IAA and ethylene have been compared on the development of epidermal cells in intact shoots of etiolated pea plants. In the expanding sub-apical region ethylene has little effect on cell volume over 24 h but between 12 and 24 h rapid increases occur in cell wall thickening, part of which is due to the deposition of longitudinally orientated microfibrils adjacent to the plasmalemma. During this period, there is a rise in the levels of extractable cytoplasmic peroxidase.

Both ethylene and IAA induce swelling in the sub-apical region of etiolated pea plants. The modified cells of these two types of swellings differ both morphologically and in their enzyme composition. In ethylene the cell walls become thickened within 24 h and the level of peroxidase is enhanced; ethylene does not affect cellulase levels.
