Neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) are a diverse group of neoplasms whose prevalence is increasing globally, primarily due to advancements in diagnostic techniques. NETs arise from cells of the diffuse endocrine system and can occur in various locations, with the gastrointestinal tract being the most common. Their diverse clinical presentations, which range from asymptomatic to severe hormone-induced syndromes, pose significant diagnostic challenges.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFObjectives: To evaluate the effects of oral contraceptive pill (OCP) and metformin at the end of 6 months of treatment on ovarian stromal blood flow by using pulsed and color Doppler in women with PCOS.
Methods: Women with PCOS (n=101) fulfilling the Rotterdam criteria were enrolled and randomized to receive either OCP or metformin. OCP was administered in cycles of 28 days (21 pills containing 35μg of ethinylestradiol plus 2mg of cyproterone acetate followed by 7 placebo pills) for six cycles and metformin 500mg was administered twice daily for 6 months.
Objectives: Though polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) is associated with multiple metabolic abnormalities, the metabolic risk profile of various PCOS phenotypes is still debated. Here we sought to compare the clinical, biochemical and metabolic parameters among the different PCOS phenotypes and controls.
Study Design: A total of 394 newly diagnosed PCOS women and 108 controls were enrolled consecutively.
Objectives: To evaluate abdominal fat distribution and cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk factors in women with polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) and to determine the independent risk factors for subclinical atherosclerosis.
Study Design: One hundred and twenty-four women with PCOS were compared with 118 age and BMI-matched controls. Abdominal obesity was assessed as the waist-to-hip ratio (WHR) and abdominal fat distribution was measured as subcutaneous fat thickness (SFT), pre-peritoneal fat thickness (PFT) and visceral fat thickness (VFT) using Ultrasound (US).

A 20-year-old patient with 3 months of amenorrhea presented in the labor room with bleeding per vaginum and having experienced lower abdominal pain for 2 h. She had a history of difficult intercourse and prolonged menstrual flow. Inspection revealed a bleeding point over an obstructing membrane at the level of the vaginal introitus.

Due to the heterogeneous clinical nature of breast cancer, it is necessary to identify new biomarkers that are associated with tumor growth, angiogenesis and metastasis. Osteopontin (OPN) and cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) are known to be overexpressed in invasive breast cancer and their overexpression is associated with aggressive histological and clinical features.
