Associations between oral health impacts attributed to malocclusion and normative and self-perceived orthodontic treatment need in Turkish adolescent patients.

Background: In the socio-dental approach, the integration of normative oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) and behavioral propensity measures should be considered when assessing treatment needs and planning oral services. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the relationship between oral health impacts attributed to malocclusion and normative and self-perceived orthodontic treatment needs in adolescent patients and to determine the clinical, sociodemographic, and behavioral factors affecting their OHRQoL.

Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted using a convenience sample size of 105 adolescent patients aged 11-14 years who were referred to the Orthodontics Clinic in the Faculty of Dentistry, Istanbul.

Comparative evaluation of fluoride-free remineralization agents with and without Er,Cr:YSGG laser on artificial enamel remineralization.

This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of fluoride-free remineralizing agents in initial enamel caries, with and without combined Er,Cr:YSGG laser application. The remineralization effect of various agents and their combinations on artificial initial caries was investigated using 10 experimental groups (n = 7): NC, negative control; PC, positive control; TM, calcium-phosphate compounds (CPP-ACP); TD, theobromine-containing toothpaste; RG, ROCS® remineralizing gel; L, Er,Cr:YSGG laser (2780 nm; 0.25 W; repetition rate, 20 Hz; pulse duration, 140 μs; tip diameter, 600 μm; without air/water cooling); L + fluoride toothpaste; L + TM; L + TD; and L + RG.

Does the face mask increase the impact of rapid maxillary expansion on sagittal airway dimensions?

Purpose: Airway dimensions associated with the transversal and sagittal position of the maxilla are affected by orthodontic treatment. The objective of this study was to compare the effects of rapid maxillary expansion (RME) and RME followed by face mask (FM) therapies on the airway space and investigate whether application of the FM increases the short-term and long- term impact of RME on sagittal airway dimensions.

Comparison of the efficiency of alveolar decortication and low level laser therapy on orthodontic tooth movement and alveolar metabolism in rats.

Background/purpose: Reducing orthodontic treatment duration has many advantages for both clinicians and patients. This study was designed to compare the effects of alveolar decortication and low level laser therapy methods on tooth movement rate and alveolar bone metabolism.

Materials And Methods: A total of 42 Wistar albino rats were divided into three main groups as: Alveolar decortication (AD), low level laser therapy (LLLT) and only orthodontic force (F).

Evaluation of the Compliance of Orthodontists to Infection Control Procedures in Turkey.

Objective: Orthodontists do not perform surgical procedures, nevertheless they are obliged to practice appropriate sterilization techniques to prevent cross-infection. This is also important from an ethical and legal point of view. The aim of the present study is to evaluate the compliance of orthodontists to infection control procedures in Turkey.
