We present a method for predicting hyperchaotic time series using a complex network-based forecasting model. We first construct a network from a given time series, which serves as a coarse-grained representation of the underlying attractor. This network facilitates multistep forecasting by capturing the local nonlinearity of the dynamics and offers superior accuracy over more extended periods than traditional methods.

Background: Mitral annular disjunction (MAD), posterior displacement of the mitral valve leaflet hinge point, predisposes to arrhythmias or sudden cardiac death. We evaluated the burden of MAD, mitral valve prolapse (MVP), and mitral regurgitation (MR) by heritable thoracic aortic disease gene in a cross-sectional analysis of 2014-2023 data in the Montalcino Aortic Consortium registry.

Methods And Results: MAD was determined by direct measurement of echocardiographic images.

The photocatalytic generation of H using covalent organic frameworks (COFs) is gaining more interest. While numerous reports have focused on the production of H from deionized water using COFs, the inability to produce H from industrial wastewater or seawater is a common limitation in many reported catalysts. Additionally, many of these reports lack a clear path to scale up the catalyst synthesis.

An effective and straightforward method for the synthesis of 1-aminoanthracene-9,10-dione carboxamides by coupling a weakly reactive amine, 1-aminoanthracene-9,10-dione, and sterically hindered carboxylic acids was achieved using COMU as the coupling agent. Furthermore, making use of the advantages associated with the super-critical fluid chromatography (SFC) technique, a simplified and straightforward method for the chiral separation of optically active amide derivatives from the impurities associated with the reaction mixture, in a single step, was demonstrated. The antimicrobial activity of selected 1-aminoanthracene-9,10-dione carboxamides was studied.

Physiochemical properties of polycaprolactone-hydroxyapatite (PCL-HAp) composites were investigated in the pristine and after irradiation of γ rays (25, 50, 75, and 100 kGy). PCL-HAp composites were synthesized by solvent evaporation and characterized using spectroscopic methods as well as biological assays. The surface roughness (RMS) of the irradiated composite film (at 75 kGy) was 80 times higher than that of the pristine.

Article Synopsis
  • Oral lichen planus (OLP) is a chronic autoimmune condition commonly treated with corticosteroids, which have side effects that limit long-term use, prompting the search for alternative treatments like topical purslane.
  • A study involving 34 participants assessed the effectiveness of two concentrations of purslane (5% and 10%), comparing them to a control group receiving 0.1% triamcinolone gel, evaluating clinical improvement over 90 days.
  • Results showed significant alleviation of symptoms in all groups, suggesting purslane could be a safe and effective long-term treatment option for OLP due to its nutrient-rich profile and lack of side effects.

  • * Analysis reveals that M-ZnO has more oxygen-related defects, while N-ZnO has a higher concentration of surface defects due to its smaller size; this affects their optical properties and potential applications.
  • * M-ZnO demonstrates superior photocatalytic activity for degrading rhodamine B dye, suggesting it is an efficient catalyst for environmental applications, supported by findings on defect states and energy band diagrams.

Superparamagnetic N-doped graphene oxide (GO)- with ZnS nanowires was synthesized by a one-step hydrothermal method by doping dilute amounts of Ga, Cr, In, and Al ions for water treatment and biomedical applications. In these experiments, to enhance their properties, 2% of Ga, In, and or Al were codoped along with 2% Cr ions in these ZnS nanowires. The nanocomposite with the composition, InCrZnS, has better photocatalytic efficiency than other co-doped nanocomposites.

Background: Hallux ulcers are known for their recurrence and associated risk for future amputations. Traditional nonsurgical external offloading methods have poor compliance rates, and the data is sparse on surgical offloading of hallux ulcers. We performed this study to analyze the outcomes of Keller excision gap arthroplasty of the first metatarsophalangeal joint in patients with a neuropathic plantar hallux interphalangeal joint (IPJ) ulcer in patients with diabetes mellitus.

Regulating the fuel consumption of small-scale fishing vessels could help to keep global warming well below 1.5 °C and lead to effective management in small-scale fisheries (SSF) of developing countries like India. In this regard, a bottom-up approach was carried out to collect the requisite data to explore the fuel consumption of small-scale fishing vessels along India's southeast coast.

An entrapped finger is a relatively uncommon domestic injury. When the finger gets stuck proximal to the proximal interphalangeal joint, the resultant distal edema and inappropriate attempts at retrieval can result in circumferential degloving of the skin and injury to the neurovascular structures. We report a technique that can be used in such circumstances.

  • Switching to natural gas, particularly Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) and Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), presents a viable solution for reducing CO emissions and air pollutants compared to traditional petroleum fuels.
  • Research focuses on the storage and transportation of methane (CH), which has a favorable C-H ratio for combustion and a lower environmental impact, making porous materials like covalent organic frameworks (COFs) important in this field.
  • The study reports successful scalable synthesis of two COFs, Tp-Azo and Tp-Azo-BD(Me), with significant surface areas and stable methane storage capacities, indicating their potential for safe gas storage at room temperature and pressure.

Aesthetic designs from nature enable new knowledge to be gained and, at the same time, inspire scientific models. In this context, multicomponent macrocycles embody the advantage of precisely positioning the structural units to achieve efficient communication between them. However, the construction of a functionalizable macrocycle for ultrafast charge separation and stabilization has not been attempted.

The classical surrogate data tests, which are used to differentiate linear noise processes from nonlinear processes, are not suitable for nonstationary time series. In this paper, we propose a surrogate data test that can be applied on both stationary time series as well as nonstationary time series with short-term fluctuations. The method is based on the idea of constructing a network from the time series, employing a generalized symbolic dynamics method introduced in this work, and using any one of the several easily computable network parameters as discriminating statistics.

Synchrotron-based X-ray spectroscopic and microscopic techniques are used to identify the origin of enhancement of the photoelectrochemical (PEC) properties of BiVO (BVO) that is coated on ZnO nanodendrites (hereafter referred to as BVO/ZnO). The atomic and electronic structures of core-shell BVO/ZnO nanodendrites have been well-characterized, and the heterojunction has been determined to favor the migration of charge carriers under the PEC condition. The variation of charge density between ZnO and BVO in core-shell BVO/ZnO nanodendrites with many unpaired O 2p-derived states at the interface forms interfacial oxygen defects and yields a band gap of approximately 2.

The present work investigates the less explored thermoelectric properties of the n-type GaN semiconductor by combining both experimental and computational tools. The Seebeck coefficients of GaN epitaxial thin films were experimentally measured in the wide temperature range from 77 K to 650 K in steps of ∼10 K covering both low and high-temperature regimes as a function of the carrier concentration (2 × 1016, 2 × 1017, 4 × 1017 and 8 × 1017 cm-3). The measured Seebeck coefficient at room temperature was found to be highest (-374 μV K-1) at the lowest concentration of 4 × 1016 cm-3, and decreases in magnitude monotonically (-327.
