Background: Cupressus sempervirens is one of the conifer plants, that is used as an antimicrobial, antioxidant, anthelminthic, and many other health purposes. Rhipicephalus annulatus is one of the hard tick genera affecting the production and health of domestic animals in Egypt. Extensive use of chemical acaricides in the management of ticks caused acaricide resistance, environmental contamination, residues in meat and milk, and harmful effects on non-target species.

Background: Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) has become a global healthcare issue, with its incidence continuing to rise, but currently there is no complete cure. Xylitol is a widely used sweetener in various foods and beverages, but there is limited research on the effects of xylitol on IBD symptoms.

Aim: Study on the effect of oral xylitol in improving intestinal inflammation and damage in IBD mice, further explore the mechanism of xylitol in alleviating IBD symptoms using intestinal microbiota and non-targeted metabolomics techniques.

The development of conducting polymeric nanocomposites patches for cardiac tissue engineering has opened new possibilities for restoring the health of infarcted heart tissues. Herein, we report the fabrication of biocompatible and relatively cost-effective poly(vinyl alcohol)/alginate-based hydrogels patches modified with different conducting nanofillers such as silver nanoparticles, polyaniline nanofibers, copper oxide nanoleaves, and graphene oxide nanosheets. The impact of the different nanofiller materials on the molecular structure, charge transport mechanism and mechanical characteristics of the designed nanocomposites patches was investigated.

Background And Objectives: Clinical remission, defined as the absence of disease activity and symptoms, is an emerging goal in the management of chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps (CRSwNP). This study aimed to evaluate the long-term effects of dupilumab on patients with CRSwNP, with or without asthma, and explore the potential for achieving clinical remission.

Methods: A two-year prospective study was conducted on 109 patients with CRSwNP, with or without asthma, who were eligible for dupilumab as an add-on therapy.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) represents a significant health burden in Egypt, largely attributable to the endemic prevalence of hepatitis B and C viruses. Early identification of HCC remains a challenge due to the lack of widespread screening among at-risk populations. The objective of this study was to assess the utility of machine learning in predicting HCC by analyzing the combined expression of lncRNAs and conventional laboratory biomarkers.

Background: saturated and unsaturated fatty acid showed a significant link with coronary artery health and disease.

Objective: This study aimed to compare plasma levels of unsaturated fatty acids (UFAs) between individuals with coronary heart disease (CHD) and those without. It also investigated the association between specific UFA ratios and the presence or severity of acute coronary syndrome (ACS).

This study aimed to assess the in vitro and in vivo disinfectant potential of peracetic acid (PAA) (1 mg/L) and hydrogen peroxide (HO) (20 mg/L) on the physicochemical and microbiological water quality parameters of fish aquaria, the microbial density of Nile tilapia muscular tissue, fish hepatic cortisol levels, and antioxidant biomarkers. In vitro, PAA and HO reduced A. hydrophila colony viability by 5 log units after 30 and 5 min of contact time, respectively.

Background And Objectives:  While achieving complete radiological improvement in patients with nasal polyps is often observed following surgical resection, the impact of biologic therapy, specifically dupilumab, on polyp size is an area of great interest. The objective of this study was to assess the effect of dupilumab in patients with chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps (CRSwNP) by assessing nasal polyps using the computed tomography (CT) staging system, Lund-Mackay score (LMS).

Methods:  A two-year prospective cohort study was conducted on 29 patients diagnosed with CRSwNP and asthma and eligible for dupilumab as an add-on therapy.

Article Synopsis
  • The study evaluated the expression of five long non-coding RNAs (HOTAIR, MALAT-1, XIST, SNHG15, and H19) in patients with diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) to investigate their relationship with various clinical features.
  • Results indicated that HOTAIR was significantly elevated while SNHG15 was downregulated in DLBCL patients, with both showing potential as distinguishing biomarkers between those with DLBCL and healthy individuals.
  • The findings suggest that specific lncRNAs could aid in diagnosing and staging DLBCL, as well as predicting patient outcomes, warranting further research to understand their long-term impact on survival and disease progression.

Early detection of Alzheimer's disease (AD) is vital for effective treatment, as interventions are most successful in the disease's early stages. Combining Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) with artificial intelligence (AI) offers significant potential for enhancing AD diagnosis. However, traditional AI models often lack transparency in their decision-making processes.

Objectives: Chitosan (CTS) has been a popular option for scaffold fabrication because of its biocompatibility, biodegradability, antimicrobial and nonimmunogenic effects. However, it is of limited function, due to its low mechanical strength and its solubility in acidified media. These limitations could be overcome by its blending with PVA and incorporation with bioactive materials to improve its mechanical properties and tissue regeneration capability.

Article Synopsis
  • This study looked at how a specific gene, called IL-6 (-174G/C), might be linked to mild and severe asthma in people.
  • Researchers tested 98 people with mild asthma and 116 with severe asthma, comparing them to 121 healthy people.
  • They found that a certain gene pattern (GG) made mild asthma more likely, while another pattern (GC) was linked to a much higher risk of severe asthma.

Hyalomma dromedarii is the predominant tick species parasitizing camels in Egypt which leads to mortalities in young animals that result in economic losses. It can transmit a lot of pathogens to animals and humans, such as the Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever virus, the Dhori virus, Kadam virus, Theileria annulata and spotted fever rickettsia. The continuous use of chemical acaricides has negative impact on the environment and almost led to acaricidal resistance, and hence the plant extracts represent alternative methods for controlling ticks.

Background: A significant breakthrough has been made in treating severe asthma, with the recognition of various asthma phenotypes and an updated management guideline. Type 2 targeted therapies, such as benralizumab and omalizumab; have been identified as an effective treatment for severe asthma, improving patient response, lung function tests and asthma symptom control. This study aimed to evaluate factors contributing to poor response to therapy.

Background: A significant link between T allele of the (C590T) gene and developing asthma in some populations was reported. However, no study discussed the link between (C590T) gene polymorphism and asthma severity groups (mild and severe). This study investigated the link between gene variation and asthma severity.

Objective: The objective of this study was to assess the effectiveness of switching from omalizumab to another biologic therapy for patients with severe asthma and evaluate factors that influenced the decision to switch and determined the optimal time for a good biologic response.

Subjects And Methods: A retrospective study of severe asthma patients was conducted at Al-Rashed Allergy Center, a tertiary center in Kuwait. After meeting the eligibility criteria, patients were divided into two comparative groups: those continuing with omalizumab and those who started with omalizumab but switched to another biologic.

The gut microbiota, often called the "forgotten organ," plays a crucial role in bidirectional communication with the host for optimal physiological function. This communication helps regulate the host's immunity and metabolism positively and negatively. Many factors influence microbiota homeostasis and subsequently lead to an immune system imbalance.
