Pulmonary Embolism in a Palliative Aortopulmonary Shunt.

A 44-year-old man with a history of tricuspid atresia and discontinuous pulmonary arteries with palliative correction from a Waterston procedure and a modified central shunt presented with back pain, fevers, dyspnea, and cough. Treatment for pneumonia was unsuccessful. On computed tomography angiography he was found to have a subacute pulmonary embolism, potentially iatrogenic.

• Cor triatriatum dexter results from persistence of the right valve of the sinus venosus. • A 3D evaluation can help differentiate CTD from other congenital abnormalities. • Treatment options for CTD include surgery, first line, or percutaneous resection.

Early conversion of classic Fontan conversion may decrease term morbidity: single centre outcomes.

Background: The initial classic Fontan utilising a direct right atrial appendage to pulmonary artery anastomosis led to numerous complications. Adults with such complications may benefit from conversion to a total cavo-pulmonary connection, the current standard palliation for children with univentricular hearts.

Methods: A single institution, retrospective chart review was conducted for all Fontan conversion procedures performed from July, 1999 through January, 2017.

The Role of Pulmonary Scintigraphy in the Evaluation of Adults with Congenital Heart Disease.

Adults with congenital heart disease represent a growing population with challenging and complex medical management. Pulmonary scintigraphy can play a valuable role in the evaluation and care of this patient population. We present a review of the variety of clinical scenarios where pulmonary scintigraphy can be helpful in the evaluation of adults with congenital heart disease, along with technical considerations associated with these studies.

Identification of adults with congenital heart disease of moderate or great complexity from administrative data.

Introduction: There is relatively sparse literature on the use of administrative datasets for research in patients with adult congenital heart disease (ACHD). The goal of this analysis is to examine the accuracy of administrative data for identifying patients with ACHD who died.

Methods: A list of the International Classification of Diseases codes representing ACHD of moderate- or great-complexity was created.

Ross Versus Non-Ross Aortic Valve Replacement in Children: A 22-Year Single Institution Comparison of Outcomes.

Background: The Ross aortic valve replacement (AVR) has been the AVR of choice for children at our center since 1993. Absence or inadequate quality of the pulmonary valve or, less commonly, family or surgeon preference caused us to select an alternative AVR prosthesis for some children. This review compares the outcomes of 42 children who received a non-Ross AVR with 115 children undergoing Ross root replacement at our institution during the most recent 22 years.

Optimization of supercritical CO(2) extraction of fish oil from viscera of African Catfish (Clarias gariepinus).

Fish oil was extracted from the viscera of African Catfish using supercritical carbon dioxide (SC-CO(2)). A Central Composite Design of Response Surface methodology (RSM) was employed to optimize the SC-CO(2) extraction parameters. The oil yield (Y) as response variable was executed against the four independent variables, namely pressure, temperature, flow rate and soaking time.
