Aim: The aims of the study are to evaluate the predictive value of early post-operative stimulated thyroglobulin (sTg) analysis on the recurrence risk, and to define a cut-off value that is related to recurrence risk in low to intermediate risk papillary thyroid cancer (PTC).

Methods: This retrospective cohort study included individuals who were diagnosed with PTC aged 18 years or older and had been operated by experienced surgeons of a tertiary university hospital between the years 2011 and 2021. Aging is the most potent of carcinogens, especially for the bone marrow stem cell clonal disorders called myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS). Age-associated changes in the microenvironment or the soil of the bone marrow (BM) as well as in the cell or the seed provide a growth advantage for clonal myeloid cells. Slowly accumulating senescent cells which can no longer divide because they have reached the end of their proliferative life cycle, but which continue to produce metabolic debris, overwhelm the natural autophagy mechanisms resulting in pro-inflammatory changes in the BM soil.

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) has been shown to result in profound changes in the composition and functions of the gut microbial flora which by disrupting intestinal epithelial barrier and generating toxic by-products contributes to systemic inflammation and the associated complications. On the other hand, emerging evidence points to the role of the gut microbiota in the development and progression of CKD by provoking inflammation, proteinuria, hypertension, and diabetes. These observations demonstrate the causal interconnection between the gut microbial dysbiosis and CKD.
