High-sensitivity C-reactive protein and high mobility group box-1 levels in Parkinson's disease.

Various immunologic and inflammatory factors are contributed to pathogenesis of Parkinson's disease (PD). High mobility group box-1 (HMGB1) is a protein that plays certain roles in inflammation, DNA repair, transcription, somatic recombination, cell differentiation, cell migration, neuronal development, and neurodegeneration. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the serum levels of HMGB1 and high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) among patients with Parkinson's disease and healthy controls.

A case of Ross syndrome presented with Horner and chronic cough.

Ross syndrome is a rare sweating disorder associated with Adie's tonic pupil, decreased or diminished tendon reflex and unknown etiology. Although autonomic disturbances affecting sudomotor and vasomotor functions are seen commonly, they are rarely symptomatic. While Ross syndrome is typically characterized with dilated tonic pupil, it may be rarely manifested with miotic pupils (little old Adie's pupil), which can make diagnosis difficult.

Venlafaxine versus amitriptyline in the prophylactic treatment of migraine: randomized, double-blind, crossover study.

In patients with migraine with or without aura the prophylactic effect of amitriptyline (AMT) and venlafaxine (VLF) was compared in a randomized double-blind crossover study. Intolerable side effects resulted in drop out of five patients on AMT (due to hypersomnia, difficulty in concentration and orthostatic hypotension) and one patient on VLF (because of nausea and vomiting). Following the run-in period the patients (n = 52) were randomly treated with one of the study medications for 12 weeks.
