Traditional vs. modified Ringer lactate-based del Nido cardioplegia impacts on clinical outcomes in patients undergoing coronary artery bypass grafting: Results from a prospective, randomized, blinded trial.

Introduction: Myocardial protection with cardioplegia is a crucial approach to mitigate myocardial damage during coronary bypass grafting surgery (CABG) with cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB). The major component of the del Nido cardioplegia solution, Plasma-Lyte A, is difficult to obtain in Iran due to high cost. The objective of the current study was to study if the lactated Ringer's solution as the base for del Nido solution (LR DN) usage is a viable option as a substitute for Plasma-Lyte A in adult patients presenting for CABG surgery.

Non-cannulated versus cannulated cancellous screws for the internal fixation of femoral neck fractures in osteoporotic patients: A single-blind randomized clinical trial.

Background: The incidence of femoral neck fractures in osteoporotic patients is rising worldwide and is associated with significant increases in healthcare and social costs, as well as dependency. Improving minimally invasive treatment strategies, including internal fixation with screws, can result in favorable clinical outcomes and lesser incidence of complications, while preserving the hip. This study compared the outcomes of using non-cannulated cancellous screws (NCS) and cannulated cancellous screws (CS) in the internal fixation of undisplaced intracapsular femoral neck fractures (UIFNF) of osteoporotic patients of Iranian descent.

Background: This study aimed to evaluate the sensitivity and specificity of the leukocyte esterase (LE) band in two groups of patients receiving and not receiving antibiotics and compare the results.

Methods: This prospective cross-sectional study was conducted on 105 joints with clinical suspicion of infectious arthritis (based on Kocher criteria) admitted in Shohada Hospital, Tabriz, Iran, within 2017-2018. Background: The purpose of this study was to determine the biomechanical changes after first dorsal compartment release and after Z-plasty of the first dorsal compartment with respect to the excursion and displacement of the abductor pollicis longus and extensor pollicis brevis tendons.

Materials And Methods: Six fresh frozen cadaveric hand and forearms were obtained and the tendons of the abductor were exposed and separated from surrounding tissues through a palmar incision and tenotomized at the musculotendinous junction. The excursion and displacement of the abductor pollicis brevis and flexor pollicis brevis tendons were measured for all six cadaveric hands.

Advanced oxidation processes for chlorpyrifos removal from aqueous solution: a systematic review.

Chlorpyrifos (CPF), an organophosphate insecticide, due to its high efficiency and low cost is widely used in the agricultural industry. CPF may lead to lung deficiency, central nervous system damage, developmental and autoimmune disorders. In recent decades, the advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) have been considered in water and wastewater treatment due to their high efficiency in decomposition of organic and inorganic compounds, specially hardly biodegradable or non-biodegradable compounds.

Tendencies towards bottled drinking water consumption: Challenges ahead of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) waste management.

The main objective of this study was to investigate the logics behind tendencies towards bottled drinking water usage in spite of availability of treated tap water. The amount of waste bottle is also estimated in Iran and managing principles for resolving the issue presented. A questionnaire was used to survey the logics behind tendencies toward bottled drinking water consumption among 120 participants.

Abundance and distribution of microplastics in the sediments of the estuary of seventeen rivers: Caspian southern coasts.

Given the increase in plastic production, persistence, and toxicity in the environment, understanding the probability of microplastics (MPs) accumulation in the sediments of the rivers' estuary is urgently needed. In this study, sediments of the estuary of 17 rivers, ending to the Caspian Sea, were evaluated at two depths (0-5 cm and 5-15 cm). Plastic particles were categorized into two groups in terms of size: small MPs and large MPs.

Contamination of the Caspian Sea Southern coast sediments with microplastics: A marine environmental problem.

Marine ecosystem pollution with microplastics (MPs) is a global problem. The current study aimed to assess the occurrence of MPs in the sediments of the Caspian Sea southern coasts. Arsenic (As) is a toxic metalloid that can cause significant health issues through drinking water. The present study was aimed to evaluate As distribution and the related health risks from drinking groundwater in rural areas of Hashtroud, Iran. Principal component analysis (PCA) and hierarchical cluster analysis (HCA) were also applied to better explain relationship pattern between different resources.

Comparative study on the microbial quality in the swimming pools disinfected by the ozone-chlorine and chlorine processes in Tabriz, Iran.

Applying a desirable disinfestation process is necessary to control the pathogenic microorganisms in the swimming pools and prevent both dermal and intestinal effects. Therefore, the present study was conducted to compare the bacterial community and diversity in the two swimming pools disinfected by the chlorine and ozone (O)-chlorine processes. A total of 24 samples were taken from the two swimming pools in three distinct seasons to analyze the bacterial and physico-chemical indicators.

Estimation of plastic waste inputs from land into the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman: An environmental disaster, scientific and social concerns.

It has been reported that, the huge amount of plastic waste is present in marine environments. This study evaluated solid waste generation, management, disposal approaches, and the amount of plastic waste entered into the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman in 2016. The findings showed that waste in the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman regions has been mismanaged by 65% and 81%, respectively.

Results of surgical treatment for Sprengle's deformity with vertical corrective scapular osteotomy.

Introduction: Sprengle deformity is the most common congential anomaly of shoulder complex that is the result of scapular placement in cephalad abnormal position. The purpose of this study is the evaluation of clinical and radiological results of vertical corrective scapular osteotomy and comparision of these results with previous studies.

Methods: We retrospectively reviewed the results of the vertical corrective scapular osteotomy (VSO) with or without clavicular osteotomy and wake-up test in 31 consecutive patients at an average duration of follow up of 30 month (6 month-15 years).

It has been proven that there is an extensive bulk of plastic debris in marine ecosystems. The present study analyzed solid waste generation, its management and final disposal methods in Caspian Sea coastal countries, and the amount of plastic waste entering the Caspian Sea. The results showed that, on average, more than 90% of waste in the Caspian Sea coastal countries is mismanaged.
