This study investigated whether multilinguals who stutter differ from multilinguals who do not stutter in terms of attention networks. Towards that end, it measured (a) performance differences in attention networks between multilinguals who stutter and those who do not stutter and (b) the correlation between stuttering characteristics and attention networks. Twenty-four multilingual Dutch-English speaking adults (20-46y), half of whom were diagnosed with stuttering, completed the Attentional Network Task (ANT) that evaluates the attention networks of alerting, orienting, and executive control.

Background: Tuberculosis (TB) is one of the most important infectious diseases worldwide. Resistance to antituberculosis drugs develops because of genetic mutations that render drug-activating enzymes inactive, changes in cell wall permeability, and increased expression of efflux pump genes and also combination therapy with efflux pump inhibitors may be more effective in drug-resistant TB patients.
Aims: To investigate the effect of verapamil (VR) on isonicotinic acid hydrazide (INH) resistance and the expression of 21 efflux pump genes in INH monoresistant MTBC clinical isolates.
Objective: Pulmonary hypertension (PH) is associated with adverse perioperative events in patients undergoing non-cardiac surgery. In this study, we aimed to investigate the relationship between systolic pulmonary artery pressure (sPAP), evaluated by transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) before surgery, and perioperative mortality and morbidity in patients who underwent non-cardiac surgery in our center.
Methods: Of the 3425 retrospectively screened patients who underwent non-cardiac surgery, 3049 patients whose estimated sPAP values were previously determined by TTE were included in the study.

View Article and Find Full Text PDFTuberculosis (TB) is caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis, still one of the most common life-threatening infectious diseases worldwide. Although drug resistance in M.tuberculosis is mainly due to spontaneous chromosomal mutations in genes encoding drug target or drug activating enzymes, the resistance cannot be explained only by these mutations.

Postnatal regeneration is mainly driven by proliferation of preexisting cardiomyocytes and supported by proregenerative macrophages and angiogenesis. Although the process of regeneration has been well studied in the neonatal mouse, the molecular mechanisms that define the switch between regenerative and nonregenerative cardiomyocytes are not well understood.
