Paratesticular/inguinal SMARCB1/INI1 deficient carcinomas with yolk sac tumour-like differentiation are aggressive somatic malignancies.

Aims: Extragonadal yolk sac tumour (YST) is rare, and may present a diagnostic challenge. YST differentiation was recently reported in some somatically derived tumours in the sinonasal location and in the female genital tract, together with a SMARCB1/INI1 loss. We report two paratesticular/inguinal tumours with striking morphological and immunohistochemical similarities with YST, further expanding the spectrum of extragonadal tumours with YST-like morphology and SMARCB1/INI1 loss.

The effect of Mobile-Assisted training and counseling on nurses' ventrogluteal injections application of nursing: A mixed method study.

Comparison of clinical features of cystic fibrosis patients eligible but not on CFTR modulators to ineligible for CFTR modulators.

Introduction: Cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR) modulator drugs target the underlying defect and improve CFTR function. They are a part of standard care in many countries, but not all patients are eligible for these drugs due to age and genotype. Here, we aimed to determine the characteristics of non-eligible patients for CFTR modulators in the CF registry of Turkey (CFRT) to highlight their clinical needs.

Alexithymia in primary ciliary dyskinesia.

Objective: Recent evidence suggests that alexithymic deficits in emotional processing may also affect physical health, and alexithymia may also be associated with organic disorders. The emotional well-being of patients with primary ciliary dyskinesia (PCD) is often negatively affected by uncertainty about the prognosis, lack of ongoing medical care, and lack of symptom control. This study aims to evaluate the frequency of alexithymia and its possible impact on the management of childhood PCD.

An evaluation of pediatric emergency cases in the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic: A single-centre experience.

Aim: Nurses responsible for the care of children in the emergency department must be aware of the case profile of the pandemic era, better prepare for developing crises, and identify preventive services. The study aims to determine the pediatric emergency cases admitted during the pandemic and compare them to those during the pre-pandemic period.

Methods: The current study was designed as a single-center, retrospective, cross-sectional, and descriptive research.

Childhood interstitial lung disease in Turkey: first data from the national registry.

The childhood interstitial lung diseases (chILD) Turkey registry (chILD-TR) was established in November 2021 to increase awareness of disease, and in collaboration with the centers to improve the diagnostic and treatment standards. Here, the first results of the chILD registry system were presented. In this prospective cohort study, data were collected using a data-entry software system.

Objective: Only a few studies have investigated the frequency and severity of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) infections after the end of the pandemic regulations. This study aims to investigate the frequency and severity of RSV infections before, during, and after the pandemic in Turkey.

Materials And Methods: Patients under 18 years of age and those who tested positive for RSV between April 2018 and March 2023 were retrospectively reviewed.

Successful treatment of postinfectious bronchiolitis obliterans with gamma globulin in a tertiary center: 10 years of experience.

Introduction: Bronchiolitis obliterans is characterized by partial or total occlusion of the bronchioles due to inflammation and fibrosis, and the most common form is postinfectious bronchiolitis obliterans (PIBO). This study aimed to retrospectively present our intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) treatment experience in PIBO patients with a clinically severe course despite receiving commonly used treatment protocols.

Materials And Methods: The study included patients aged 0-18 with subtle immunological abnormalities who were followed up in our center for PIBO between 2010 and 2021.

Metastatic solid tumors to the testis: a clinicopathologic evaluation of 157 cases from an international collaboration.

To elucidate the spectrum of metastatic solid tumors to the testis and their clinicopathologic features. The databases and files of 26 pathology departments from 9 countries on 3 continents were surveyed to identify metastatic solid tumors to the testis and to characterize their clinicopathologic features in detail. We compiled a series of 157 cases of metastatic solid tumors that secondarily involved the testis.

Clinical characteristics of patients requiring lung transplantation referral in national cystic fibrosis registry data.

Background: We aimed to determine the number of cystic fibrosis (CF) patients recorded in the Cystic Fibrosis Registry of Türkiye (CFRT) who were in need of lung transplantation (LT) referral and examine clinical differences between patients who were LT candidates due to rapid forced expiratory volume in one second (FEV₁) decline and LT candidates without rapid FEV₁ decline in the last year to identify a preventable cause in patients with such rapid FEV₁ decline.

Methods: All CF patients recorded in the CFRT in 2018 were evaluated in terms of LT. Patients were divided into those with FEV₁ below 50% and in need of LT due to a decrease of 20% or more in the previous year (Group 1) and those who did not have FEV₁ decline of more than 20% in the previous year but had other indications for LT (Group 2).

Background: Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a multisystemic, autosomal recessive disease, which is caused by a mutation in the transmembrane conduction regulator protein (CFTR) gene. We present a patient who was diagnosed with CF and later diagnosed with Niemann-Pick type-A (NPA) disease, which is an autosomal recessive lysosomal lipid storage disease.

Case: A 2-month-old Syrian refugee patient was diagnosed with CF due to a high sweat test and two homozygous CFTR-related pathogenic gene mutations in our pediatric pulmonology clinic, where she was referred due to a high immunoreactive trypsinogen (IRT) value as a result of newborn screening.

Myoid gonadal stromal tumours (MGST) represent a rare type of testicular sex cord-stromal tumour that has recently been recognised as a distinct entity by the World Health Organization (WHO) classification of genitourinary tumours. MGSTs affect adult men and have been reported to behave in an indolent fashion. Histologically, MGSTs are pure spindle cell neoplasms that coexpress SMA and S100 protein.

Clinicopathologic and molecular spectrum of testicular sex cord-stromal tumors not amenable to specific histopathologic subclassification.

A subset of testicular sex cord-stromal tumors (SCST), which includes neoplasms with mixed histology, cannot be classified into a specific histologic subtype. This study evaluated the clinicopathologic, immunophenotypic and molecular features of 26 SCST not amenable to specific classification by expert uropathologists. Median age at diagnosis was 43 years and median tumor size was 2.

Delta variant effect on the clinical course of adolescent COVID-19 patients.

Objective: The clinical course of new COVID-19 variants in adolescents is still unknown. The aim of this study is to evaluate the clinical characteristics of COVID-19 in adolescents and compare the differences between the original version and the delta variant.

Materials And Methods: The medical records of patients aged 10-18 years treated for COVID-19 between April 1, 2020 and March 31, 2022 were retrospectively reviewed.

Use of Flexible Bronchoscopy in Foreign Body Aspiration.

Objective: Foreign body aspiration remains a serious health problem with a potential for severe consequences, and acute and chronic problems in children. It therefore demands immediate intervention. Rigid bronchoscopy has long been the method of choice for foreign body removal but is now being replaced by flexible bronchoscopy which offers reduced trauma and the ability to access distal bronchial regions.

Catalytic and SERS activities of WO-based nanowires: the effect of oxygen vacancies, silver nanoparticle doping, and the type of organic dye.

Oxygen vacancies in tungsten trioxide (WO) nanostructures (WO) dominate the major characteristics of the material and determine their activity in various applications including photocatalysis and surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS). Despite some studies performed in the last decade, the photocatalytic activity toward different pollutants and SERS activity toward different Raman reporter molecules are still unclear and may provide valuable insights into this research field. Therefore, in this study, we propose WO nanowires (NWs) both as ideal photocatalysts for the degradation of organic pollutants such as crystal violet (CV), methylene blue (MB), malachite green (MG), and rhodamine 6G (R6G) and a SERS platform for the detection of these molecules.
