In heart failure, sympathetic overdrive is evidenced by norepinephrine spillover, receptor level changes, etc. Beta-blockers continue to be the cornerstone of treatment in patients with chronic heart failure due to their ability to counteract sympathetic overdrive. Extensive clinical research has demonstrated that long-term beta-blocker treatment with metoprolol succinate, carvedilol, or bisoprolol enhances left ventricular function and reverses left ventricular remodeling, decreases hospitalization risk, and increases survival.

An association between transverse aortic arch (TAA) hypoplasia and HTN has been found, but its relationship with surgical strategy is unclear. We studied the association between late HTN and initial surgical strategy pertaining to the TAA.

Background: Many patients with repaired tetralogy of Fallot require pulmonary valve replacement (PVR) due to significant pulmonary regurgitation (PR). Transcatheter PVR (TPVR) is an equally effective and less invasive alternative to surgical PVR but many native right ventricular outflow tracts (RVOTs) are too large for TPVR at time of referral. Understanding the rate of growth of the RVOT may help optimize timing of referral.

The guideline-directed medical therapy for Heart failure (HF) includes Angiotensin receptor-neprilysin inhibitor (ARNI) (sacubitril/valsartan), β-blockers, sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitors, and mineralocorticoid receptor antagonists (MRA). ARNI is under-prescribed in India despite its attractive safety and efficacy profile.

Iron deficiency (ID) with or without anemia is frequently observed in patients with heart failure (HF). Uncorrected ID is associated with higher hospitalization and mortality in patients with acute HF (AHF) and chronic HF (CHF). Hence, in addition to chronic renal insufficiency, anemia, and diabetes, ID appears as a novel comorbidity and a treatment target of CHF.

It is not known if the presence of a BAV accentuates the aortopathy and HTN in CoA patients.

However, the utility of CCT using a dual-source scanner with respect to diagnostic performance and impact on management has not been systematically studied in this population.
Methods: Retrospective review of infants who underwent CCT to determine the utility of CCT with respect to the following: answering the primary diagnostic question, providing new diagnostic information, prompting a change in management, and concordance with catheterization or surgical inspection.
Background: Right ventricular (RV) late gadolinium enhancement (LGE) occurs due to surgical scarring and RV remodeling, and has been shown to be associated with clinical outcomes in Tetralogy of Fallot (TOF). However, it is not known if cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) LGE extent progresses over time, and therefore, it is not known if serial reassessment of LGE is necessary. We determined the rate of progression in the extent of RV LGE on serial CMR examinations in repaired TOF.

Progressive aortic stiffening associated with aging has been previously described in normal adults. However, it is not known if aging related aortic stiffening occurs at the same rate in BAV patients.

There is conflicting evidence as to whether or not CoA is an independent risk factor for CAD. The primary aim was to determine if CoA is independently associated with premature myocardial infarction (MI) in the contemporary era.

The largest dose reductions have been reported with prospectively gated, high-pitch imaging. However, there are limited data to determine if these benefits extend to pediatric patients.

This study aimed to determine whether CoA is independently associated with premature ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke in the contemporary era.

The ventriculoarterial coupling (VAC) ratio, the ratio of arterial elastance (Ea) to ventricular end-systolic elastance (Ees), reflects cardiovascular efficiency. Little is known about this ratio in patients who have undergone the Fontan procedure. Our aim was to assess the VAC ratio in a cohort of Fontan patients using a cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) method, and to examine its relation to outcomes.

The rate of increase in aortic stiffness with normal aging has been previously described. However, longitudinal changes in aortic stiffness have not been characterized in CTD patients.

Transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) is commonly used but has several limitations. Cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) can offset these limitations but has not been directly compared with TTE.

Novel indicators of vascular phenotype severity such as aortic stiffness and vertebral tortuosity index have been proposed. We assessed the relation between aortic stiffness by cardiac MRI, surgical root replacement, and rates of aortic root dilation in children and young adults with CTDs.

By analyzing the complete genomes of five plants we generated a database of 40,512 orthologous intron groups of dicotyledonous plants, 28,519 orthologous intron groups of angiosperms, and 15,726 of land plants (moss and angiosperms). Multiple sequence alignments of each orthologous intron group were obtained using the Mafft algorithm.

We performed a retrospective case-control study to identify risk factors for developing a profuse SPC burden in HLHS. Angiograms of 439 patients with HLHS (performed <2 years of age) were reviewed using a previously published angiographic grading scale to identify cases (profuse SPC burden, n = 20) and controls (no or minimal SPC burden, n = 35).

The aim of this study was to use retrospective cardiac magnetic resonance data to determine the relation between SPC flow and palliative stage and clinical status in single-ventricle physiology. Of 116 patients, 78 were after Fontan operation (median age 19 years) and 38 were at an earlier palliative stage (median age 2 years).

We evaluated the usefulness of methods used to quantify MR in children enrolled in a multicenter trial of enalapril 6 months after surgical repair of an atrioventricular septal defect (AVSD). MR severity in this trial was assessed using body surface area (BSA)-adjusted vena contracta lateral (i-VCW(lat)) and anterior-posterior (i-VCW(ap)) dimensions and cross-sectional area (i-VCA), regurgitant volume/BSA, regurgitant fraction, and qualitative MR grade.
