Article Synopsis
  • Bronchopleural fistula (BPF) is a serious complication of lung conditions, leading to complex management issues and often resulting in high rates of illness and death.
  • There is no standard approach for closing BPF, but various methods exist, including tube drainage, surgery, and newer techniques like glue and occlusion devices.
  • A case is presented where a unique transcutaneous method using a duct occluder device successfully closed a recurrent BPF, which has not been documented in previous literature.

Article Synopsis
  • A 54-year-old male developed a fistula between the left anterior descending coronary artery and the left upper lobe bronchus due to a coronary artery aneurysm.
  • This aneurysm resulted from previous drug eluting balloon angioplasty performed for in-stent restenosis in the same coronary artery.
  • This case represents a previously unreported medical condition, highlighting the complexities that can arise post-angioplasty.

Article Synopsis
  • Chronic persistent bronchopleural fistulae (BPF) are difficult to manage and require a combination of medical and surgical approaches.
  • Bronchoscopy, along with various devices, plays a crucial role in managing BPF, especially for high-risk patients or when surgery isn't feasible.
  • A case study highlights the successful closure of a postoperative chronic BPF using a less invasive bronchoscopic procedure with an atrial septal occluder device.
