How to address the barriers to meaningful adolescent involvement in health research: A qualitative study.

The under-involvement of adolescents in health research has been attributed to multiple barriers faced by both researchers and adolescents. Despite identifying these barriers, the literature offers few solutions, mostly from the perspective of researchers. To address this, we conducted a qualitative study to explore effective strategies to address these barriers from the perspective of both researchers and adolescents.

A rapid review of guidelines on the involvement of adolescents in health research.

Background: Meaningful involvement of adolescents in health research is their fundamental human right and has many benefits. A lack of awareness among researchers on how to meaningfully involve adolescents in health research has been linked to adolescent under involvement in health research. To address this barrier, studies have reported the need for more guidance.

Factors associated with crisis pregnancies in Ireland: findings from three nationally representative sexual health surveys.

Background: Findings on the demographic and sexual health characteristics associated with the experience of a crisis pregnancy are important to inform the public health policy of a country, including Ireland. Studies from other jurisdictions have suggested that certain demographic groups are at risk for unintended pregnancies and the disparity between the groups has been growing in recent years. Ireland is a country which experienced much economic and societal change in the first decade of the 21(st) century; changes which are likely to have affected demographic variables pertaining to sexual health.

Comparing a pictorial stroop task to viewing time measures of sexual interest.

This study investigated the ability of two viewing time (VT) methodologies and a pictorial Stroop task to differentiate sexual interest in a group of nonoffending heterosexual and homosexual men. The two VT methodologies were investigated given the lack of consistency among published studies supporting this method. The results indicated that the VT methodology in which participants are asked to browse through some images is slightly superior to the method in which participants are asked to rate their attractiveness to the images.
