Fluid resuscitation choices in prehospital trauma care are limited, with most Emergency Medical Services (EMS) agencies only having access to crystalloids. Which solution to use, how much to administer, and judging the individual risks and benefits of giving or withholding fluids remains an area of uncertainty. Setting: Patients who received rapid sequence intubation medications from transport service personnel and were subsequently intubated were included. The critical care transport agency operates 8 helicopter- and 3 ground-based emergency medical service units.
Background And Objective: Stroke is the leading cause of disability in the United States and new evidence shows interventional procedures provide better outcomes for large vessel occlusions (LVO). We performed a systematic review of the literature on prehospital stroke scales used to identify LVOs comparing the scales with analysis of the sensitivity, specificity, and predictive values. The goal was to determine if emergency medical services (EMS) are able to accurately identify LVO in the field.

Objective: The objective of this study was to assess the public's experience, expectations, and perceptions related to Emergency Medical Services (EMS).
Methods: A population-based telephone interview of adults in the United States was conducted. The survey instrument consisted of 112 items.
Acquisition of death-resistance is critical in the evolution of neoplasia. Our aim was to model the early stages of carcinogenesis by examining intracellular alterations in cells that have acquired apoptosis-resistance after exposure to a complex genotoxin. We previously generated sub-populations of BJ-hTERT human diploid fibroblasts, which have acquired death-resistance following exposure to hexavalent chromium [Cr(VI)], a broad-spectrum genotoxicant.
