Facial nerve paralysis can be difficult to treat because it presents a variety of functional, aesthetic, and psychosocial challenges. The goals of treatment include facial symmetry at rest, corneal protection, oral competence, restoration of voluntary and spontaneous facial movements, and minimal synkinesis.
