The origin and evolution of shrews (Soricidae, Mammalia).

Shrews are among the most speciose of mammalian clades, but their evolutionary history is poorly understood. Their fossil record is fragmentary and even the anatomy of living groups is not well documented. Here, we incorporate the oldest, most complete fossil shrew yet known into the first phylogenetic analysis of the group to include molecular, morphological and temporal data.

Background: Culinary nutrition education can support improved diet-related health and wellbeing. A new approach for eliminating off-flavors from RAS fish, as part of the normal grow-out period.

A new concept is presented for eliminating off-flavor from cold-water RAS-grown fish, while feeding, and as a part of the normal grow-out period. The technology is based on disconnecting the nitrification biofilter, and instead passing the water through an electrolysis system, which both oxidizes the ammonia and disinfects the water, while also removing the off-flavor compounds from the water, which thereby results in the purging of the fish. The purging period was expected to last up to 2 weeks and the fish are fed throughout it.

Background: Platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) is used to prepare "sticky bone" by combining it with bone graft material. The present study investigated the ability of different bone grafts to absorb growth factors from the PRF and release them over time.

Case Description: We present a case of a 43-year-old male with a history of excessive alcohol consumption who presented with features of sepsis following a dog bite.

When evolution leads to differences in body size, organs generally scale along. A well-known example of the tight relationship between organ and body size is the scaling of mammalian molar teeth. To investigate how teeth scale during development and evolution, we compared molar development from initiation through final size in the mouse and the rat.

Neuroethical implications of focused ultrasound for neuropsychiatric illness.

Background: MR-guided focused ultrasound is a promising intervention for treatment-resistant mental illness, and merits contextualized ethical exploration in relation to more extensive ethical literature regarding other psychosurgical and neuromodulation treatment options for this patient population. To our knowledge, this topic has not yet been explored in the published literature.

Objective: The purpose of this paper is to review and discuss in detail the neuroethical implications of MR-guided focused ultrasound for neuropsychiatric illness as an emerging treatment modality.

Impact and evaluation of an online culinary nutrition course for health, education and industry professionals to promote vegetable knowledge and consumption.

Background: Poor diet, including inadequate vegetable intake, is a leading risk factor for noncommunicable disease. Culinary and nutrition education provided to trainee and practising health and education professionals is an emerging strategy to promote improved dietary intake, including vegetable consumption. We evaluated the impact and feasibility of an online culinary medicine and nutrition (CM/CN) short course for health, education and vegetable industry professionals.

Concurrent mutation of a RAS oncogene and the tumor suppressor p53 is common in tumorigenesis, and inflammation can promote RAS-driven tumorigenesis without the need to mutate p53. Here, we show, using a well-established mutant RAS and an inflammation-driven mouse skin tumor model, that loss of the p53 inhibitor iASPP facilitates tumorigenesis. Specifically, iASPP regulates expression of a subset of p63 and AP1 targets, including genes involved in skin differentiation and inflammation, suggesting that loss of iASPP in keratinocytes supports a tumor-promoting inflammatory microenvironment.

Background: An Australia wide cross-sectional online survey examined facilitators and barriers of health and education professionals to providing culinary nutrition (CN) and culinary medicine (CM) education and behaviour change support in usual practice, in addition to identifying continuing professional development (CPD) needs in this domain.
