Previous studies have demonstrated that brain stimulation can alter an individual's physical appearance via dysregulation of the medial prefrontal cortex (MPFC). In this study, we attempted to determine if individuals who receive repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) delivered to the MPFC were rated as more attractive by others. An oral sorbent with high capacity for NH is desirable in lowering the blood urea level and mitigating the dialysis burden for end-stage kidney disease (ESKD) patients. Zirconium phosphate (ZrP) is an amorphous cation ion exchanger with high NH binding capacity as a sorbent material, but its selectivity to remove NH is limited in the presence of other competing ions in water solution. Key Points: Sodium zirconium cyclosilicate effectively lowers serum potassium and maintains normokalemia in patients with CKD with concomitant hyperkalemia and metabolic acidosis. Despite high screen failure and small sample size, a nominally significant increase in sHCO was seen for sodium zirconium cyclosilicate versus placebo. Further studies on the basis of an appropriate cohort size may help validate the trend observed in sHCO levels, supporting these clinically relevant findings.

Background: Targeting of solid cancers with chimeric antigen receptor (CAR)-T cells is limited by the lack of suitable tumor-specific antigens and the immunosuppressive, desmoplastic tumor microenvironment that impedes CAR-T cell infiltration, activity and persistence. We hypothesized that targeting the endosialin (CD248) receptor, strongly expressed by tumor-associated pericytes and perivascular cancer-associated fibroblasts, would circumvent these challenges and offer an exciting antigen for CAR-T cell therapy due to the close proximity of target cells to the tumor vasculature, the limited endosialin expression in normal tissues and the lack of phenotype observed in endosialin knockout mice.
