We present a case of a patient with hidradenitis suppurativa and porokeratosis, two AIKDs, followed by a review of these conditions as well as other AIKDs. This case was distinguished by hypertrophic porokeratoses involving cystic hair follicles, showing histopathologic features of both conditions within single biopsy specimens.

While there are known demographic risk factors for reconstructive failure, few studies have identified intraoperative findings that predict failure after attempted salvage.
Objectives: The objective of this study was to identify intraoperative findings in infected breasts that may be predictive of implant failure.
Background: Revisionary digital amputations are often performed after partial or full traumatic digital amputation to minimize complications while preserving as much length and functionality as possible. Many surgeons attempt revisionary procedures swiftly after initial injury. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of time from injury to surgery on rate of complications and reoperation in revisionary traumatic digital amputations.

The NSHAP Wave 2 partner data = 955) were used to estimate both actor (within person) and partner (between person) effects using the Actor Partner Interdependence Model with Moderation. Global relationship happiness was predicted by the interaction of positive and negative characteristics, suggesting that more positive characteristics are only predictive of greater happiness in the presence of some negative characteristics.

Few medical trainees feel comfortable managing EDs, and an alarming 78% of healthcare providers report feeling insecure in treating EDs. Recognizing EDs early is crucial as the standardized mortality ratio for patients with anorexia nervosa is more than five times higher than that of the general population.

Free tissue transfer (FTT) is often necessary when local tissue is inadequate. While much of the literature emphasizes free flap viability in successful limb salvage, there is limited understanding regarding the need for additional surgeries or eventual amputation.

The article therefore addresses three broad issues: (1) Mehrtens' reconceptualization of mathematical modernism, in his field-changing book (1990) and other works, as an epistemic and cultural phenomenon in a way that could potentially reach across and also beyond the sciences and also link scientific and cultural modernisms; (2) the extension of his work to the history of modernity itself via the concept of "technocratic modernism"; (3) his seminal contributions to the historiography of the sciences and technology during the National Socialist period, focusing on his critique of claims that mathematics, the natural sciences and technology were morally or politically "neutral" during or after the Nazi era, and on his counter-claim that mathematicians and other scientists had in fact mobilized themselves and their knowledge in support of Nazism's central political projects. Taken as a guide for understanding science-politics relations in general, Mehrtens' work was and remains a counterweight to the political abstinence adopted by many who have followed the "cultural turn" in history of science and technology.

Using 2001-2019 mortality data from the National Vital Statistics System (NVSS) for all 50 states and Washington DC, we apply a difference in differences (DD) design to compare the change in youth homicides across states with varying changes in the state-specific minimum wage. With the inclusion of state-specific linear time trends, we find that a $1 increase in minimum wage leads to a significant 4% reduction (RR = 0.

Purpose: To visualize contraceptive choice pathways among adolescent and young adults (AYA) designated female at birth (DFAB) as a means of exploring the relationships between current contraceptive use, desired contraceptive, and ultimately, chosen contraceptive method.
Methods: A retrospective cross-sectional study was conducted of AYA DFAB (N = 2369), aged 14-24 years, presenting for initial visit at a contraceptive clinic with standardized efficacy-based counseling. Sankey diagrams were utilized to visualize patient flow through the contraceptive decision-making process.
Background: In patients who require complex abdominal wall reconstruction (CAWR), the need for a bowel anastomosis could impact procedure choice and outcome. In this retrospective cohort study, we examine the effect of bowel anastomosis on complications and hernia recurrence.
Methods: All patients who underwent CAWR between 2011 and 2021 by the senior author were reviewed in a retrospective cohort analysis.
Cerebral organoids (COs) are a valuable tool to study the intricate interplay between glial cells and neurons in brain development and disease, including HIV-associated neuroinflammation. We developed a novel approach to generate microglia containing COs (CO-iMs) by co-culturing hematopoietic progenitors and induced pluripotent stem cells. This approach allowed for the differentiation of microglia within the organoids concomitantly to the neuronal progenitors.

There are many tools developed to predict surgical complications. The Modified Frailty Index (mFI) calculates risk based on the following five elements: hypertension, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, congestive heart failure, diabetes, and functional status.

To develop culturally responsive strategies to improve Black women's access to mental health treatment, the authors evaluated social determinants associated with mental health treatment utilization and unmet mental health needs among Black reproductive-age women with serious psychological distress.
Methods: The authors performed a secondary analysis of data from the National Survey on Drug Use and Health.
Introduction: Hematoma formation after blepharoplasty is serious and potentially vision-threatening, with hypertension being the primary risk factor. The aim of this paper is to assess perioperative blood pressure trends and rates of complication in patients undergoing a strict blood pressure protocol designed to keep perioperative systolic blood pressure below 120 mmHg.
Methods: A retrospective chart review was performed of 32 patients undergoing face lift with conomitant blepharoplasty from January 2015 to July 2018.
Background: Reduction mammaplasty relieves macromastia symptoms while improving breast aesthetics, although the ideal breast aesthetically has been shown to differ culturally in previous crowdsourcing studies. Better understanding these differences can aid in setting postoperative expectations.
Objectives: The aim of this study was to characterize the ideal reduction mammaplasty according to demographics such as gender, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, and education.
Topical antiaging therapies provide noninvasive delivery of active therapeutics. Exosomes, or extracellular nanovesicles, and peptides, small strings of amino acids, have shown promise as topical therapies in early trials, but neither is FDA approved. This review aims to elucidate the current and future landscape of topical exosomes and peptides as therapeutics for skin rejuvenation.

Although the development and evaluation of chaplaincy interventions has advanced the field, little research has investigated factors influencing the implementation of new chaplain interventions. In this mixed-method study, we examined attitudes about evidence-based interventions held by chaplain residents (n = 39) at the outset of an ACPE-accredited residency program in the southeast United States.

Here, we examined how chaplains' compassion capacity was associated with their linguistic behavior with hospitalized inpatients, and how their language in turn related to patient outcomes.
Methods: Hospital chaplains ( = 16) completed self-report measures that together were operationalized as self-reported "compassion capacity.
Objective: To evaluate the effect of procedure time on thrombectomy outcomes in different subpopulations of patients undergoing endovascular thrombectomy (EVT), given the recently expanded indications for EVT.
Methods: This multicenter study included patients undergoing EVT for acute ischemic stroke at 35 centers globally. Procedure time was defined as time from groin puncture to successful recanalization (Thrombolysis in Cerebral Infarction score ≥2b) or abortion of procedure.
Background: Advanced age is considered by many to be a relative contraindication to breast reconstruction. However, despite increased medical comorbidities and a perception that elderly patients are less concerned with body image, more women older than 70 years are choosing to undergo breast reconstruction. There is a paucity of data to guide reconstructive decision-making and counseling in this population.
