KCN Chemical Etching of van der Waals SbSe Thin Films Synthesized at Low Temperature Leads to Inverted Surface Polarity and Improved Solar Cell Efficiency.

Recent developments in SbSe van der Waals material as an absorber candidate for thin film photovoltaic applications have demonstrated the importance of surface management for improving the conversion efficiency of this technology. SbSe thin films' versatility in delivering good efficiencies in both superstrate and substrate configurations, coupled with a compatibility with various low-temperature deposition techniques (below 500 °C and often below 350 °C), makes them highly attractive for advanced photovoltaic applications. This study presents a comparative analysis of the most effective chemical etchings developed for related thin film chalcogenide technologies to identify and understand the most appropriate surface chemical treatments for SbSe in substrate configuration, synthesized using a sequential process at very low temperatures (320 °C).

Effects of Deposition Temperature and Working Pressure on the Thermal and Nanomechanical Performances of Stoichiometric CuN: An Adaptable Material for Photovoltaic Applications.

The pursuit of efficient, profitable, and ecofriendly materials has defined solar cell research from its inception to today. Some materials, such as copper nitride (CuN), show great promise for promoting sustainable solar technologies. This study employed reactive radio-frequency magnetron sputtering using a pure nitrogen environment to fabricate quality CuN thin films to evaluate how both temperature and gas working pressure affect their solar absorption capabilities.

Elimination of Interface Energy Barriers Using Dendrimer Polyelectrolytes with Fractal Geometry.

In this work we study conjugated polyelectrolyte (CPE) films based on polyamidoamine (PAMAM) dendrimers of generations G1 and G3. These fractal macromolecules are compared to branched polyethylenimine (b-PEI) polymer using methanol as the solvent. All of these materials present a high density of amino groups, which protonated by methoxide counter-anions create strong dipolar interfaces.

Poly(amidoamine) Dendrimer as an Interfacial Dipole Modification in Crystalline Silicon Solar Cells.

Poly(amidoamine) (PAMAM) dendrimers are used to modify the interface of metal-semiconductor junctions. The large number of protonated amines contributes to the formation of a dipole layer, which finally serves to form electron-selective contacts in silicon heterojunction solar cells. By modification of the work function of the contacts, the addition of the PAMAM dendrimer interlayer quenches Fermi level pinning, thus creating an ohmic contact between the metal and the semiconductor.

Does SbSe Admit Nonstoichiometric Conditions? How Modifying the Overall Se Content Affects the Structural, Optical, and Optoelectronic Properties of SbSe Thin Films.

SbSe is a quasi-one-dimensional (1D) semiconductor, which has shown great promise in photovoltaics. However, its performance is currently limited by a high deficit. Therefore, it is necessary to explore new strategies to minimize the formation of intrinsic defects and thus unlock the absorber's whole potential.

CANVAS: A New Genetic Entity in the Otorhinolaryngologist's Differential Diagnosis.

Objective: The biallelic inheritance of an expanded intronic pentamer (AAGGG) in the gene encoding replication factor C subunit 1 () has been found to be a cause of cerebellar ataxia, neuropathy, and vestibular areflexia syndrome (CANVAS). This study describes clinical and genetic features of our patients with clinical suspicion of the syndrome.

Environmental genomics is a promising field for monitoring biodiversity in a timely fashion. Efforts have increasingly been dedicated to the use of bacteria DNA derived data to develop biotic indices for benthic monitoring. However, a substantial debate exists about whether bacteria-derived data using DNA metabarcoding should follow, for example, a taxonomy-based or a taxonomy-free approach to marine bioassessments.

Mixed unilateral transposition of a maxillary canine, central incisor, and lateral incisor.

A girl, aged 7 years 11 months, came for treatment with the chief complaint of lack of eruption of her maxillary right central and lateral permanent incisors. The radiographic analysis indicated complete transposition of the maxillary right lateral incisor and canine, and a pseudotransposition of the maxillary right central and lateral incisors. This is a clinical condition of mixed transposition in the same hemi-arcade: the combination of a complete transposition and another incomplete or coronary transposition-a situation that has not been reported in the literature.

Meropenem monotherapy is as effective as and safer than imipenem to treat brain abscesses.

The efficacy of carbapenems versus cefotaxime (8g/day)+metronidazole (1.5-2g/day) [combined standard chemotherapy (CSC)] for the treatment of brain abscess was compared. Fifty-nine adult patients with brain abscesses received either imipenem or meropenem (3-4g/day) or CSC for a mean of 5 weeks, in addition to neurosurgery in most cases.

This case report highlights some of the new challenges related to these algorithms which include possible ECG misinterpretations and inaccurate programming leading to potential negative consequences.

Liver transplantation in patients with portal vein thrombosis.

The aim of this study is to analyze the incidence, risk factors, management, and follow-up of patients with portal vein thrombosis (PVT) undergoing primary orthotopic liver transplantation (OLT). Four hundred fifteen OLTs were performed in 391 patients. In 62 patients, partial (group 1; n = 48) or complete (group 2; n = 14) PVT was found at the time of surgery.

[Progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy associated with human immunodeficiency virus infection: the clinical, neuroimaging, virological and evolutive characteristics in 35 patients].

Background: The clinical, neuroimaging, virologic and evolutive characteristics of progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy (PML) in 35 AIDS patients are studied.

Patients And Methods: PML was diagnosed by clinical and neuroimaging criteria in 32 patients and by autopsy in other three. The detection of JC virus (JCV) was done by PCR and further hybridization of the amplified DNA in peripheral blood lymphocytes, urine and CSF.

Successful intrathecal ethanol block for intractable spasticity of AIDS-related progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy.

Objective: To study the efficacy of intrathecal ethanol block to relieve intractable spasticity in AIDS-related progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy (PML) when long-term intrathecal baclofen infusion cannot be used.

Methods: A 33-year-old man with AIDS-related PML developed very severe spastic paraparesis (Ashworth rigidity score, 4) and painful muscle spasms. The patient was unable to sit in his wheelchair and remained bed bound.

Imipenem therapy of brain abscesses.

The efficacy of imipenem versus standard chemotherapy (both in addition to neurosurgery) in the treatment of brain abscess was compared in a retrospective study. Cure was obtained in 52 of 60 (86.7%) patients in the standard group, and in 15 of 15 (including 5 patients with multiple brain abscesses) in the imipenem group.

Doppler assessment of left ventricular diastolic function in marathon runners.

The possible alteration in diastolic function as a result of physiological left ventricular hypertrophy was evaluated in 28 male marathon runners (mean age 38.6 +/- 5.7 years) using Doppler echocardiography.
