Introduction: Chronic nausea and vomiting are symptoms of a wide range of gastrointestinal and non-gastrointestinal conditions. Diagnosis can be challenging and requires a systematic and well-structured approach. If the initial investigation for structural, toxic and metabolic disorders is negative, digestive motility and gut-brain interaction disorders should be assessed.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFBackground: Abdominal pain is the cardinal symptom of acute pancreatitis (AP), often requiring opioid therapy. This study aimed to investigate the dose-dependent relationship between opioid therapy and moderately severe or severe AP.
Methods: This was a post-hoc analysis of the prospective PAINAP database, which recruited patients with first-time AP from 118 centres across 27 countries between April-June 30, 2022.
Chronic nausea and vomiting (N/V) disorders are common in clinical practice. Our primary aim was to compare total and segmental gastrointestinal transit times as well as gastric contraction patterns in patients with chronic N/V syndrome to those of healthy volunteers (HVs). In the patient group, our secondary aim was to explore how symptoms and motility patterns were affected by a serotonin HT receptor agonist (Prucalopride).

Results: 15 studies including 147 patients (adult n = 71/paediatric n = 76) reported on CGM use post-TP (n = 42) and TPIAT (n = 105). 4 were randomized controlled trials and 10 observational studies.

Autonomic neuropathy is associated with dysglycemia that is difficult to control. We investigated if transcutaneous vagus nerve stimulation (tVNS) could improve glycemic levels. We randomized 145 individuals with type 1 diabetes (T1D) ( = 70) or type 2 diabetes (T2D) ( = 75) and diabetic autonomic neuropathy (DAN) to self-administered treatment with active cervical tVNS ( = 68) or sham ( = 77) for 1 week (4 daily stimulations) and 8 weeks (2 daily stimulations), separated by a wash-out period of at least 2 weeks.

Objectives: Noncancer chronic pain is a clinical challenge because pharmacological treatment often fails to relieve pain. Transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) is a treatment that could have the potential for pain relief and improvement in quality of life. Methylnaltrexone, a peripherally acting µ-opioid receptor antagonist, may counteract these effects without changing analgesia.
Methods: This double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled trial included adult patients with AP and systemic inflammatory response syndrome at 4 Danish centers.
Introduction: The purpose of this study was to investigate the risk of metabolic sequelae and all-cause mortality in a population-based cohort of chronic pancreatitis (CP) patients with and without prior acute pancreatitis (AP).
Methods: We used nationwide health registries to identify all Danish residents (18 years and older) with incident CP from 2000 to 2018. Information on AP/CP diagnoses, metabolic sequelae (post-pancreatitis diabetes mellitus [PPDM], exocrine pancreatic dysfunction, and osteoporosis), and all-cause mortality were obtained from Danish national health registries.
Background: The functional lumen imaging probe (FLIP) is a test of anal sphincter distensibility under evaluation by specialist centers. Two measurement protocols termed "stepwise" and "ramp" are used, risking a lack of standardization. This study aims to compare the performance of these protocols to establish if there are differences between them.

This study aimed to assess pancreatic fat content in lean and obese individuals, characterize obese individuals with and without IPFD, and explore the underlying mechanisms.
Materials And Methods: Sixty-two obese individuals without diabetes and 35 lean controls underwent magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) using proton density fat fraction (PDFF) maps to evaluate pancreatic and hepatic fat content, and visceral adipose tissue (VAT) content.

Introduction: Treatment for abdominal pain in patients with chronic pancreatitis (CP) remains challenging in the setting of central nervous system sensitisation, a phenomenon of remodelling and neuronal hyperexcitability resulting from persistent pain stimuli. This is suspected to render affected individuals less likely to respond to conventional therapies. Endotherapy or surgical decompression is offered to patients with pancreatic duct obstruction.

Methods: From a population-based sample of individuals with NOD aged >50 years, patients with pancreatic cancer-related diabetes (PCRD), defined as NOD followed by a PDAC diagnosis within 3 years, were included (n = 716). These PCRD patients were randomly matched in a 1:1 ratio with individuals having NOD.
