  • Alcohol consumption is a significant risk factor for head and neck cancer (HNC), and the role of alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH) genes, particularly ADH3 polymorphism, was examined through a comprehensive meta-analysis.
  • A systematic search across multiple databases identified 27 relevant studies, analyzing genotype frequencies and the association of ADH3 variations with HNC risk among different populations.
  • Despite finding that ADH3 polymorphism may not significantly affect overall HNC risk, the analysis highlighted a higher risk in Asian populations and a potential protective effect for pharyngeal cancer subtypes.
