Reactivation of hepatitis viruses during chemotherapy can be problematic in the treatment of malignant lymphomas. However, studies on reactivation of chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection are limited. A 43-year-old woman presented with generalized lymphadenopathy and multiple liver tumors, and she was diagnosed with follicular lymphoma (grade 3a; clinical stage IV).

Methods: We conducted a multicenter study using prospective data from 478 hepatitis C virus-related cirrhosis patients treated with direct-acting antiviral therapy from February 2019 to December 2021 at 33 Japanese hospitals. Gastroesophageal varices were classified as F1 (small-caliber), F2 (moderately enlarged), or F3 (markedly enlarged) according to the Japanese criteria.
Background & Aims: Hepatitis B virus (HBV)-DNA integration into the host genome contributes to hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) development. KMT2B is the second most frequent locus of HBV-DNA integration in HCC; however, its role and function remain unclear. We aimed to clarify the impact of HBV-KMT2B integration in HCC development using a human genome-edited induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSCs) model.

However, it is not clear whether GGT serves simply as a surrogate marker for overlapping metabolic diseases or reflects HCV-specific carcinogenicity. We investigated the association between GGT and hepatocarcinogenesis after achieving a sustained viral response (SVR), accounting for drinking habits or diabetes, and examined predisposing factors associated with GGT levels after SVR.

However, the HSC contribution to progression of liver inflammation has been less known. We aimed to elucidate the mechanism in HSCs underlying the inflammatory response and the function of tumor necrosis factor α-related protein A20 (TNFAIP3).

Here, we evaluated the influence of liver fibrosis and inflammation on quantitative M2BPGi (M2BPGi-Qt) in CLD, considering each etiology.
Methods: We recruited 1373 patients with CLD.
Background And Aim: Immune checkpoint inhibitors pose the risk of immune-related adverse events (irAEs). Recent data suggest that irAEs may be associated with a favorable prognosis. This study aimed to investigate and analyze the association between these adverse events and the clinical benefits in patients with unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma.

This study aimed to reveal the actual transition and changes in the prognosis and background liver disease in non-advanced HCC in the past 20 years.
Methods: This retrospectively recruited 566 patients who were diagnosed with non-advanced HCC from February 2002 to February 2022.
Aim: C-reactive protein (CRP) is both an inflammatory and prognostic marker in various cancers. This study aimed to elucidate the characteristics of CRP and the prognostic factors in patients who were administered with atezolizumab plus bevacizumab (ATZ + BEV) for unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).
Methods: A total of 213 patients who received ATZ + BEV for HCC from November 2020 to March 2023 at 15 hospitals were enrolled in this retrospective study.
Despite treatment, hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) persists in patients with chronic hepatitis B (CHB), suggesting the likely presence of the virus in the body. CD8 T cell responses are essential for managing viral replication, but their effect on HBsAg levels remains unclear. We studied the traits of activated CD8 T cells and HBV-specific CD8 T cells in the blood of CHB patients undergoing nucleos(t)ide analog (NUC) therapy.

Over a period of 5 years, she visited the emergency department 21 times due to the intensity of the pain. Although the pain appeared consistent with biliary pain, both blood and imaging tests showed no abnormalities.

However, their function, the committed precursors, or growth factors remain elusive. In this study we find that Ym1Ly6C monocytes, an immunoregulatory entity of neutrophil-like monocytes, arise from progenitors of neutrophil 1 (proNeu1).

Moreover, in the patients receiving multiple molecular-targeted therapies, the gene alternations are still unknown. Six molecular-targeted therapies of unresectable HCC (uHCC) and comprehensive genomic profiling (CGP) have been approved in clinical practice.

Thus, we aimed to determine whether fatty liver affects the development of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) in patients receiving NA therapy. This study included 445 patients who received NA therapy, and the development of HCC was investigated.

This study aimed to identify factors associated with immune-related liver injury (irLI), and the relationship between the grades of irLI and overall survival (OS) in patients treated with ICIs.
Methods: A total of 571 patients who had been treated for advanced malignancies with ICIs between January 2015 and March 2022 were retrospectively recruited.
Hepatitis C virus infection is characterized by chronic liver inflammation and fibrogenesis, leading to end-stage liver failure and hepatocellular carcinoma over the course of 20 to 30 years. It seems not only the chronicity of hepatitis C but also the presence of the virus in non-hepatic tissues creates a favorable environment for the potential development of pathogenic impacts on extrahepatic systems and organs. Numerous extra-hepatic manifestations have been reported in association with HCV infection, all of which can substantially affect morbidity, mortality, and quality of life.

However, there remain no established biomarkers or therapeutic strategies regarding the best second-line agent after atezolizumab plus bevacizumab therapy.
Aim: In this study, we investigated the usefulness of modified Geriatric 8 (mG8) score in examining elderly patients (≥75 years old) with unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma (u-HCC) using sorafenib or lenvatinib as first-line therapy.
Background: Direct-acting antiviral (DAA) therapy enables a high rate of sustained virologic response (SVR) in patients with hepatitis C virus associated cirrhosis. However, the impact of DAA therapy on liver-related events in patients with cirrhosis is unclear.
