The autophagy-related ubiquitin-like conjugation systems, the ATG8 and ATG12 systems, are universally conserved in eukaryotes. However, the covalent bond in the ATG12 system has recently been shown to be evolutionarily lost in Apicomplexa. Here, we show that all genes associated with the ATG12 system are absent in piroplasmida, a lineage within Apicomplexa.

Variable-temperature Hahn-echo experiments using the pulsed electron spin resonance technique showed that its coherence lifetime remains at the submicrosecond level even above 100 K.

In this study, clinical information from 854 cases registered by February 16, 2024 was analyzed from multiple perspectives. Diagnosis of IgG4-RD was made in 808 cases, comprising 638 definite, 38 probable, and 132 possible.

However, postoperative shivering can develop even at normal or high core temperatures. This study aimed to investigate the factors associated with postoperative shivering in patients with maintained core temperature after surgery.

Introduction: Fishbone (FB) ingestion is a rare cause of gastrointestinal perforation. Herein, we report a case of FB-induced colonic perforation, in which the presence of a penile colonic carcinoma may have contributed to the development of the perforation.
Case Presentation: An 83-year-old man was admitted to our hospital with severe abdominal pain during bowel movement.
Quantum sensing has the potential to improve the sensitivity of chemical sensing by exploiting the characteristics of qubits, which are sensitive to the external environment. Modulation of quantum coherence by target analytes can be a useful tool for quantum sensing. Using molecular qubits is expected to provide excellent sensitivity due to the proximity of the sensor to the target analyte.

Methods: We performed comprehensive serum miRNA sequencing of 212 pancreatic cancer patient samples from 14 hospitals and 213 non-cancerous healthy control samples. We randomly classified the pancreatic cancer and control samples into two cohorts: a training cohort (N = 185) and a validation cohort (N = 240).
Babesiosis is a growing concern due to the increased prevalence of this infectious disease caused by protozoan parasites, affecting various animals and humans. With rising worries over medication side effects and emerging drug resistance, there is a notable shift towards researching babesiacidal agents. Antimicrobial peptides, specifically cathelicidins known for their broad-spectrum activity and immunomodulatory functions, have emerged as potential candidates.

A preoperative careful review of cardiac catheterization results helped assess the risk of the surgery and implement anesthetic management. Intraoperative management focused on minimizing the impact on pulmonary vascular resistance and venous return by optimizing ventilation and applying lower pneumoperitoneum pressure without tilting the position.

The block copolymer micelles exhibited a higher dye solubilization capacity which correlated with their core volume, clear core-shell contrast and slow solubilization rate.

In this study, a new UiO-type MOF with a 5,12-diazatetracene (DAT)-containing ligand is synthesized, and the radicals generated in the MOF exhibit high stability and a relatively long coherence time () responsive to the introduction of various guest molecules.

The transfected parasite with episomal DNA was selected and cultured for further analysis based on the presence of the rfp-bsd fusion gene by PCR and expression of the fusion protein by immunofluorescence antibody test under fluorescence microscopy for 2 months after the transfection. The results are the first, to our knowledge, to demonstrate the expression and stability of the episomal rfp-bsd fusion gene under the control of actin promoter as a selectable marker for the transfection system in B.

Reports of pancreatic neuroendocrine neoplasm (P-NEN) concomitant with intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasm (IPMN) are gradually increasing. However, many of these cases were diagnosed in the resected specimen incidentally. We herein report a case of minimal P-NEN concomitant with branch-duct IPMN that was successfully diagnosed preoperatively by contrast-enhanced endoscopic ultrasonography (EUS) and an EUS-guided fine-needle biopsy.

Despite different chromophore orientations and spacings, photoinduced persistent radicals were generated in all the MOFs, and their spin-lattice relaxation time () and spin-spin relaxation time () were found to be relatively long even at room temperature. The generality of long and values of photogenerated radicals in the chromophore-assembled MOFs provides a new platform towards quantum sensing applications.

is an emerging tick-borne pathogen considered as the principal causative agent of bovine babesiosis in Europe with a notable zoonotic risk to human health. Despite its increasing impact, considerable gaps persist in our understanding of the molecular interactions between this parasite and its hosts. In this study, we address the current limitation of functional genomic tools in and introduce a stable transfection system specific to this parasite.

We examined this relationship by combined retrospective analyses of two real-world databases. Initially, the FDA Adverse Event Reporting System (FAERS) was analyzed for the effects of concomitant use of one or more nephrotoxins on VAN and the types of combinations of nephrotoxins that exacerbate VAN.

In recent phylogenetic studies, bat Polychromophilus and ungulate Plasmodium, two relatively understudied haemosporidian parasites within the Apicomplexa phylum, have often been overlooked. Instead, the focus has been primarily on haemosporidian parasites in primates, rodents, and birds. Several phylogenetic analyses of bat Polychromophilus have relied on limited datasets and short informative DNA sequences.

Drug-induced pruritus triggers a desire to scratch, thereby diminishing one's quality of life. Certain instances of this phenomenon follow complex mechanisms of action that diverge from histamine-mediated pathways, known contributors to pruritus. However, investigations into the relationship between drugs and pruritus are limited.
