A series of benzothiazolopyrimidine-thiazole conjugates , , and were produced through the reactions of 8-acetylbenzothiazolopyrimidine-thiosemicarbazone compound with chloroacetone, (un)substituted phenacyl chlorides, and ethyl chloroacetate, respectively. Based on DFT study, the synthesized conjugates had a twisted shape, except for the parent benzothiazolopyrimidine and its thiosemicarbazone compound , which were flat. The study of FMO's also showed that the substituted thiazole derivatives and have equivalent configurations of HOMO and LUMO, as well as exhibiting the least FMO's gap (ΔE).

Article Synopsis
  • The study assesses how well three electronic apex locators (EALs) identify the apical constriction (AC) in molar canals, which is crucial for successful root canal treatments.* -
  • Forty extracted human mandibular molars were tested, showing that Root ZX-mini and Root ZX-II had higher accuracy in locating the AC compared to the Sirona integrated device, with most readings categorized as 'close'.* -
  • All EALs provided reliable results whether used in dry canals or with EDTA gel, indicating they can effectively determine AC without being influenced by lubricants; however, Root ZX-mini and Root ZX-II showed significantly better performance.*

Cyclin-dependent kinase (CDK) 4 and 6 inhibitors, such as palbociclib, have emerged as essential in managing hormone receptor-positive (HR+), human epidermal growth factor receptor 2-negative (HER2-) advanced or metastatic breast cancer. While effective, these inhibitors can cause rare dermatologic side effects, including vitiligo-like depigmentation. We report a rare case of a 52-year-old female with HR+, HER2- metastatic breast cancer who developed vitiligo-like depigmentation following palbociclib treatment.

The present study introduced a novel disposable screen-printed carbon electrodes (SPCEs) modified with copper oxide/zeolite nanostructures for eco-friendly selective differential pulse voltammetric quantification of tetrahydrozoline (THZ) in eyedrop samples and biological fluids. Modification of the electrode matrix with copper oxide nanoparticles/zeolite nanostructures (CuONPs/ZY) with their effective and synergistic electrocatalytic activity enhanced the electrode performance against electrooxidation of THZ at 0.960 V in BR at pH 9.

We performed the next-generation sequencing (NGS) analysis of a rare grade 1 brain meningioma (angiomatous type) and a common grade 1 spinal meningioma (psammomatous type) and compared their mutation profiling. The data were analysed using the Ion Reporter 5.16 programme (Thermo Fisher Scientific, Waltham, MA).

The incidence of extrapulmonary tuberculosis (EPTB) in low- and middle-income countries, as well as, high-income countries has increased over the last two decades. The acid-fast bacillus (AFB) smear test is easy to perform and cost-effective with a quick turnaround time but the test has low sensitivity. Culture remains the gold standard for detecting TB; however, it has low sensitivity and slow bacterial growth patterns, as it may take up to 6 to 8 weeks to grow.

Herein, the fabrication and full characterization of a novel atomoxetine (ATX) voltammetric carbon paste electrode (CPE) fortified with iron oxide nanoparticles (FeONPs) is demonstrated. Modification of the carbon paste matrix with the metallic oxide nanostructure provides proper electrocatalytic activity against the oxidation of ATX molecules at the carbon paste surface, resulting in a noticeable improvement in the performance of the sensor. At the recommended pH value, ATX recorded an irreversible anodic peak at 1.

This study aimed to assess the efficacy and safety of bedside removal of tunnelled hemodialysis catheter (TDC) by noninterventional nephrologists among adult patients. It is a retrospective study that involved 53 patients from March 2020 to February 2022 at the King Abdulaziz University Hospital (KAUH) Hemodialysis Centre in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Of the 53 participants, 60.

Article Synopsis
  • The chromophore TzHTCF was synthesized through a diazo-coupling method and showed absorption solvatochromism, revealing a significant red shift when dissolved in different polarity solvents.
  • Its fluorescence spectrum ranged from 416-670 nm and was more influenced by solvent polarity than absorption, indicating different red shifts for each.
  • Calculations and methods such as LSER and DFT confirmed that the solvent's hydrogen-bond characteristics and polarizability affect TzHTCF's optical behaviors, alongside the molecule's planar structure influencing its transitions.

Two thiazole-based complexes were prepared from Co(II) and Cu(II) ions. The new ligand and its complexes were fully characterized by analytical and spectral techniques. The ligand behaved as a neutral tridentate in its keto-form towards the metals O(8), O(10) and O(18) atoms.

The newly synthesized Schiff's base derivative, N-allyl-2-(2-oxoacenaphthylen-1(2H)-ylidene)hydrazine-1-carbothioamide, has been characterized by different spectral techniques. Its reaction with Co(II), Ni(II), and Zn(II) acetate led to the formation of 1 : 1 (M:L) complexes. The IR and NMR spectral data revealed keto-thione form for the free ligand.

The salt of Aurintricarboxylic acid (ATA) was utilized in this study to synthesize new alkaline earth metal ion complexes. The analytical results proposed the isolation of mononuclear (Sr&Ba) and binuclear complexes (Mg&Ca). These complexes were analyzed by available analytical and spectral techniques.

A new carbazole chromophore conjugated with substituted thiazolidine-4-one (CzPT) was synthesized by applying the Knoevenagel reaction between 3,6-diformyl-N-hexylcarbazole and ethyl 2-aceto-2-(5-oxo-3-phenylthiazolidin-2-ylidene)acetate. The chemical structure of the new derivative (CzPT) was elucidated by spectral studies. The CzPT absorption spectra in different solvents exhibited a red shift for λ by increasing solvent polarity.

Background: Cardiac arrests are a leading cause of mortality in Saudi Arabia. Prompt and quick intervention using early cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) can be a life-saving strategy. Sufficient knowledge and awareness regarding CPR are important in initial care, particularly during an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest.

Rationale: Vici syndrome (VICIS) is a rare, autosomal recessive neurodevelopmental disorder with multisystem involvement characterized by agenesis of the corpus callosum, congenital cataracts, cardiomyopathy, combined immunodeficiency, significant developmental delay, and hypopigmentation and in some cases loss of hearing. It is caused by mutations in Ectopic P-granules protein 5 gene, which is responsible for regulating autophagy activity.

Patient Concern: We report a 6-month-old Saudi female patient who was the second-born baby of first cousins.

Article Synopsis
  • Francisella tularensis is a highly virulent Gram-negative bacterium that causes tularemia and is classified as a potential bioterrorism agent by the CDC.
  • The study explores the role of the peroxiredoxin enzyme AhpC in resisting oxidative stress and its contribution to the virulence of different strains of F. tularensis, specifically the live vaccine strain (LVS) and the highly virulent SchuS4 strain.
  • Findings reveal that AhpC acts as a crucial antioxidant in both strains, providing stress resistance and aiding in survival within host cells, indicating differences in antioxidant strategies between LVS and SchuS4.

In recent years, merocyanine photoacids have been utilized to control various chemical processes using visible light and have found applications in materials, energy, and biomedical areas. Molecular merocyanine photoacids are commonly used in the previous works. Covalently linking the photoacids to polymers improves their compatibility with different media, avoids leakage problems, and allows a localized proton concentration to be produced.
