A series of amino acid-based Schiff bases have been synthesized using a facile condensation between benzil (a diketone) and amino acid in the presence of a base. The formation of Schiff base compounds has been ensured by elemental analysis, FT-IR, H-NMR, C-NMR and UV-Vis. spectra.

With an intention to make the complexes most stable, very special chelating amino acid has been coordinated to the metal centre. The resultant metal complexes have been characterized by variety of techniques including FT-IR, UV-Vis.

This work focuses the synthesis and characterization of few novel mixed ligand Schiff base metal complexes and their biological activities. For deriving the structural aspects, spectral techniques such as FT-IR, UV-Vis., (1)H NMR, Raman, EPR and the physicochemical characterizations including elemental analysis, molar conductance and magnetic susceptibility method have been involved.
