The primary aim of this study was to report the physical activity profiles and the functional status of critically ill patients at one-month post-discharge using the 'Physical Activity Scale for the Elderly (PASE)' questionnaire. Study participants included were between 45 and 75 years of age, admitted to ICUs for a minimum of 24 h. Altogether, 110 study participants were included by consecutive sampling, from which six were lost to follow up.

Background: Despite beneficial progress in policies, awareness and advocacy, accessibility gaps exist in public buildings in India. Challenges achieving full inclusivity still exist, due to a lack of clear guidance for implementing accessible solutions. Retrofitting older buildings, particularly in developing tier II cities is a major challenge.

Background: Cardiac autonomic neuropathy (CAN) is an underdiagnosed complication of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and is associated with cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. Cardiac autonomic reflex tests (CARTs) are the gold standard; they are non-invasive and clinically feasible for screening CAN. The objective of the present meta-analysis was to examine exercise's effect on cardiac autonomic function using CARTs in T2DM.

Prolonged sitting can negatively impact postprandial glucose levels and cognitive function. While short bouts of stair climbing are thought to mitigate these risks, the findings remain inconclusive. The present study aimed to explore the effects of stair climbing bouts on postprandial glucose and cognitive functions during prolonged sitting.

Introduction: Rotator cuff (RC) tears are the most common and disabling musculoskeletal ailments among patients with shoulder pain. Although most individuals show improvement in function and pain following arthroscopic rotator cuff repair (ARCR), a subgroup of patients continue to suffer from persistent shoulder pain following the surgical procedure. Identifying these factors is important in planning preoperative management to improve patient outcomes.

Background: Prediabetes Risk Test (PRT) has been found valid in the Western population for screening prediabetes. However, ethnicity, race, geographical and other biological characteristics have been linked to the development of prediabetes. There is a dearth of literature on the external validity of PRT in the Indian population.

Knee osteoarthritis is a prevalent degenerative joint disease leading to pain, stiffness, reduced mobility in the knee, and muscle weakness. Total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is typically the preferred surgical treatment option for moderate to severe osteoarthritis. A deeper understanding of quadriceps and hamstring muscle activation after TKA is needed to monitor patient prognosis postoperatively.

Objective: To systematically review, summarize and appraise evidence on the factors determining quality of life (QoL) after total knee arthroplasty (TKA) in individuals with knee osteoarthritis.

Methods: We searched six databases (PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, CINAHL, EMBASE, and ProQuest) using appropriate search terms to identify the relevant literature published on the factors determining QoL following TKA. Two reviewers independently performed the study screening and study selection.

Objectives: Digital technologies in healthcare are rapidly advancing, and have the potential to enhance delivery across outpatient, inpatient, and community settings, thus ultimately improving healthcare practices. These technologies have been demonstrated to be among the safest alternatives to in-person visits for vulnerable or homebound people, thereby avoiding travel and facilitating healthcare-provider communication. This review was aimed at understanding the application of digital technology to promote physical activity and exercise in older adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus.

Purpose: To explore how principles of social justice and equity are integrated into research concerning accessibility to public buildings for individuals with mobility disabilities.

Methods: Utilising a scoping review methodology to assess literature based on the criteria set by the Joanna Briggs Institute, seven databases were screened. Studies were selected using the framework: "persons with mobility disabilities" AND "accessibility" AND "public buildings".

Article Synopsis
  • Rotator cuff related shoulder pain (RCRSP) greatly affects individuals' physical and psychological health, but research is limited in low-to-middle-income countries like India.* -
  • A study in South India interviewed 10 participants to explore their lived experiences with RCRSP, uncovering themes like the burden of pain, treatment uncertainties, and coping mechanisms influenced by cultural norms.* -
  • The results suggest a need for a comprehensive management strategy that incorporates physical treatment, psychological support, and cultural beliefs to effectively address RCRSP in these communities.*

Article Synopsis
  • Total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is performed to relieve pain and improve mobility in people with severe knee osteoarthritis, but the relationship between the quadriceps angle (Q-angle) and TKA outcomes hasn't been well studied.
  • This study aimed to measure the Q-angle before and after TKA and analyze its correlation with pain, quadriceps strength, and knee flexion range of motion (ROM) among 34 participants.
  • Results showed a significant decrease in the Q-angle after TKA, with clear correlations between the Q-angle and pain levels, quadriceps strength, and knee flexion ROM, highlighting the importance of the Q-angle in assessing post-surgery recovery.

Background: Core muscles constitute the centre of the kinetic chain, and core exercises have been effective in improving outcomes in many postsurgical lower extremity musculoskeletal conditions. However, the literature on the implementation of core exercises after TKA has not been summarised.

Objective: The objective was to review the evidence on the effect of core exercises on clinical and functional outcomes after TKA in individuals with knee osteoarthritis (OA).

Background: Diabetes Mellitus (DM) has emerged as a rapidly growing non-communicable disease (NCD) across developed & developing countries. People with diabetes mellitus experience health implications. They develop associated microvascular complications such as neuropathy, nephropathy & retinopathy and macro-vascular complications like coronary artery disease, stroke, amputations etc.

Background: Musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) are one of the major causes of morbidity, which affect particularly the upper quadrant in industrial settings and so upset the quality of life (QoL). The influence of the protocol of exercise-based programs at the workplace on the well-being of the worker is contradictory. The objective of the study was to find the effect of the structured exercise-based intervention on upper quadrant dysfunction among fish processing workers with work-related MSDs.

Background: Caring for a child with long-term functional limitations can have a negative impact on the physical and psychological well-being of the caregiver. Family-centered care (FCC) interventions have the potential to empower caregivers and contribute to their well-being. This systematic review aimed to synthesize existing evidence on the effectiveness of FCC interventions in improving the well-being of caregivers of children with cerebral palsy (CP), and identify the key components of such interventions that are most commonly practiced and deemed effective.

Objectives: Interstitial Lung Disease (ILD) is a severe and rapidly progressing disease with a high fatality rate. Patient education (PE) has been demonstrated to promote long-term adherence to exercise and lifestyle improvements by assisting patients in developing self-management techniques. Our scoping review's goal was to chart out the prevailing level of research about the content, processes, and effectiveness of PE for patients with ILD.
