The relationship between lipoprotein(a) [Lp(a)] and restenosis after intracoronary stent implantation has never been analysed in diabetic patients. The aim of the present prospective study was to evaluate whether Lp(a) levels and apolipoprotein(a) [apo(a)] phenotypes are predictors of restenosis after elective stent implantation in Type 2 diabetic patients with de novo lesions of coronary arteries. We recruited 102 Type 2 diabetic patients with a new lesion successfully treated with elective placement of one or two Palmaz-Schatz stents.
