Undoped and nickel-doped zinc oxide thin films were deposited on sodalime glass substrates by utilizing dip coating and ultrasonic spray pyrolysis deposition techniques. In both cases zinc acetate and nickel acetylacetonate were used as zinc precursor and nickel dopant source, respectively. XRD analysis confirms the ZnO wurtzite structure with (002) as the preferential orientation.

Pure and copper (Cu)-incorporated tin oxide (SnO₂) pellet gas sensors with characteristics provoking gas sensitivity were fabricated and used for measuring carbon monoxide (CO) atmospheres. Non-spherical pure SnO₂ nano-structures were prepared by using urea as the precipitation agent. The resultant SnO₂ powders were ball milled and incorporated with a transition metal, Cu, via chemical synthesis method.

This work presents a novel technique to deposit ZnO thin films through a metal vacuum evaporation technique using colloidal nanoparticles (average size of 30 nm), which were synthesized by our research group, as source. These thin films had a thickness between 45 and 123 nm as measured by profilometry. XRD patterns of the deposited thin films were obtained.

The physical characteristics of ultrasonically sprayed indium-doped zinc oxide (ZnO:In) thin films, with electrical resistivity as low as 3.42 × 10 Ω·cm and high optical transmittance, in the visible range, of 50%-70% is presented. Zinc acetylacetonate and indium chloride were used as the organometallic zinc precursor and the doping source, respectively, achieving ZnO:In thin films with growth rate in the order of 100 nm/min.

We obtain simple exact formulas for the refracted wavefronts through plano-convex aspheric lenses with arbitrary aspheric terms by considering an incident plane wavefront propagating along the optical axis. We provide formulas for the zero-distance phase front using the Huygens' Principle and the Malus-Dupin theorem. Using the fact that they are equivalent, we have in the second method found a way to use an improper integral, instead of the usual evaluated integral, to arrive at these formulas.

Chromium and ruthenium-doped zinc oxide (ZnO:Cr) and (ZnO:Ru) thin solid films were deposited on soda-lime glass substrates by the sol-gel dip-coating method. A 0.6 M solution of zinc acetate dihydrate dissolved in 2-methoxyethanol and monoethanolamine was used as basic solution.

Nitric oxide synthase 3 (NOS3) produces nitric oxide (NO) in endothelial cells, which stimulates cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP) production and thereby mediates pulmonary vasodilation. Inhibition of cGMP enzymatic cleavage by sildenafil might be involved in lung growth stimulating processes in pulmonary hypoplasia. The aim of this study was to discover insights into the transcriptional regulation of NOS3 in a mouse model of compensatory lung growth (CLG).

Indium doped zinc oxide [ZnO:In] thin films have been deposited at 430°C on soda-lime glass substrates by the chemical spray technique, starting from zinc acetate and indium acetate. Pulverization of the solution was done by ultrasonic excitation. The variations in the electrical, structural, optical, and morphological characteristics of ZnO:In thin films, as a function of both the water content in the starting solution and the substrate temperature, were studied.

Diabetic foot ulcers (DFU) or lower extremity amputation (LEA) are complications of diabetes. In those with diabetes, angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors (ACEi) and angiotensin receptor blockers (ARB) are commonly used to prevent the progression of kidney disease. Recent studies have indicated that angiotensin may affect angiogenesis and wound repair.

Background: Expression profile analyses of midkine (MDK), a multifunctional protein important in development but repressed postnataly, indicate that it is highly expressed in approximately 80% of adult carcinomas and many childhood cancers including malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumors (MPNST). In the present study, we sought to leverage its selective expression to develop a novel oncolytic herpes simplex virus (oHSV) capable of targeting developmentally primitive cancers that express MDK.

Methods: We sought to increase the oncolytic efficacy of the virus by fusing the human MDK promoter to the HSV type 1 neurovirulence gene, gamma(1)34.

Bone marrow (BM)-derived endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs) are known to play an important role in neovascularization and wound healing. We investigated the temporal effects of cutaneous wounding on EPC surface markers within the peripheral blood and BM, and to better understand the role of the stromal cell-derived factor-1 alpha (SDF-1alpha/CXCR4) axis on EPC mobilization after wounding. FVB/NJ mice were administered bilateral 8 mm circular full-thickness skin wounds.

Previous work in our group has demonstrated that mouse salivary gland has the highest concentration of salivary-derived VEGF protein compared with other organs and is essential for normal palatal mucosal wound healing. We hypothesize that salivary VEGF plays an important role in maintaining the integrity of the gastrointestinal mucosa following small bowel resection (SBR). Thirty-five 8- to 10-wk-old C57BL/6 female mice were divided into seven treatment groups: 1) sham (transaction and anastomosis, n = 5); 2) SBR (n = 8); 3) sialoadenectomy and small bowel resection (SAL+SBR, n = 8); 4) sialoadenectomy and small bowel resection with EGF supplementation (SAL+SBR+EGF, n = 9); 5) sialoadenectomy and small bowel resection with VEGF supplementation (SAL+SBR+VEGF, n = 9); 6) sialoadenectomy and small bowel resection supplemented with EGF and VEGF (SAL+ SBR+VEGF+EGF, n = 6); 7) selective inhibition of VEGF in the submandibular gland by Ad-VEGF-Trap following small bowel resection (Ad-VEGF-Trap+SBR, n = 7).
