Synchronous Presentation of Right Parotid Branchial Cleft Cyst and Left Neck HPV-Associated Cystic Metastatic Squamous Cell Carcinoma: A Diagnostic Quandary.

Branchial cleft cyst arising within the parotid space is considered an extremely rare phenomenon. In contrast, cystic squamous cell carcinoma in the lateral neck is not an uncommon presentation of HPV-related head and neck cancer. Although they have singly been narrated in literature, simultaneous expression of these anomalies has yet to be reported.

Infected Ruptured Parathyroid Cyst Presenting with Hypercalcemia and Airway Obstruction: A Case Report.

Parathyroid cysts (PC) are infrequently encountered and characterize less than 1% of all head and neck masses. When present, PCs may present as a palpable neck mass and lead to hypercalcemia and rarely respiratory depression. Furthermore, the diagnostics of PCs is difficult as they can masquerade as a thyroid or mediastinal mass given their proximity.

Surgery After BRAF-Directed Therapy Is Associated with Improved Survival in BRAF Mutant Anaplastic Thyroid Cancer: A Single-Center Retrospective Cohort Study.

The aim of this study was to describe the oncologic outcomes of patients with BRAF-mutated anaplastic thyroid cancer (ATC) who had neoadjuvant BRAF-directed therapy with subsequent surgery. For context, we also reviewed patients who received BRAF-directed therapy after surgery, and those who did not have surgery after BRAF-directed therapy. This was a single-center retrospective cohort study conducted at a tertiary care cancer center in Texas from 2017 to 2021.

Background: Cancer centers are regionalizing care to expand patient access, but the effects on patient volume are unknown. This study aimed to compare patient volumes before and after the establishment of head and neck regional care centers (HNRCCs).

Methods: This study analyzed 35,394 unique new patient visits at MD Anderson Cancer Center (MDACC) before and after the creation of HNRCCs.

Reducing intraoperative time with laryngeal mask airway and stretcher in pediatric adenotonsillectomy.

Objectives: Adenotonsillectomy (T&A) is one of the most common surgical procedures performed in the United States. Several studies have defined the safety of laryngeal mask airway (LMA) during this surgery, and conflicting evidence exists describing the role it plays in reducing intraoperative times. Our objective is to describe the role LMA and operating on a stretcher have on reducing intraoperative time during pediatric T&A.

4D-CT facilitates focused parathyroidectomy in patients with primary hyperparathyroidism by maintaining a high negative-predictive value for uninvolved quadrants.

Introduction: Improved preoperative localization facilitates minimally invasive parathyroidectomy for removal of parathyroid lesions therefore preventing an invasive bilateral neck exploration. As 4D-CT has emerged, its high specificity has helped with preoperative parathyroid lesion localization. A high negative predictive value (NPV) would serve to further confirm parathyroid lesion localization and limit unnecessary surgical exploration.

The digital divide in adoption and use of mobile health technology among caregivers of pediatric surgery patients.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify mobile Health (mHealth) technology utilization among caregivers of pediatric surgery patients.

Methods: We provided a modified version of the 2012 mobile health survey from the Pew Research Center to English and Spanish-speaking caregivers of children aged <18years presenting to pediatric surgical outpatient clinics from June to July of 2016.

Results: A total of 171 caregivers completed the survey and included 57 (34%) whites, 30 (18%) blacks, 75 (44%) Hispanics, and 6 (4%) other races.
