The study examined the link between Alopecia Areata (AA) and thyroid disorders in a sample of 102 patients with AA compared to 102 healthy controls in Pakistan.
Results indicated that while thyroid dysfunction was rare in both groups, thyroid autoimmunity was significantly more common among AA patients (4.9% vs. 0% in controls).
The findings suggest a significant correlation between AA and thyroid autoimmunity, but no significant relationship with clinical or subclinical thyroid disease.
