Article Synopsis
  • Spontaneous migration of retained bullets is uncommon, but it can lead to them being found far from the original wound site, as seen in a case involving a 17-year-old female.
  • After being shot in the right temporal region 12 years prior, she experienced discomfort in her neck, leading to the discovery of the bullet near the left pyriform fossa through laryngoscopy and imaging.
  • The bullet was successfully removed using a transoral CO2 laser microsurgery technique, demonstrating that bullets can unexpectedly migrate and how they can be treated effectively.

Knowledge of the variations of the pyramidal lobe of the thyroid is important for surgeons to perform complete resection of the functional thyroid tissue. Complete excision of the thyroid tissue surgery reduces the chances of recurrence in both the benign and the malignant diseases. It is important to remove all functioning thyroid tissue especially in the differentiated thyroid cancer so the postoperative radioiodine ablation is more effective and serum thyroglobulin acts as an efficient marker.

Large defect of the lip and buccal mucosa created due to wide resection of the cancer is difficult to reconstruct and always a challenge. Such defects are complex as there is loss of outer skin, muscle, soft tissue, and inner mucosal lining. We report the use of submental artery island flap (SAIF) in the reconstruction of a large defect of oral commissure and buccal mucosa in a 70-year-old female with the diagnosis of verrucous carcinoma.

Objective: To analyze various demographic, clinical, and histopathologic factors in T1-2 N0 squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) of the oral tongue to define a high-risk group for regional recurrence that will benefit from elective neck dissection.

Materials And Methods: Retrospective outcome analysis of a patient cohort without palpable or ultrasound (USG) detectable nodal metastases undergoing per oral wide glossectomy for T1-2 N0 SCC of oral tongue. Patients were followed up using palpation and serial USG neck and fine-needle aspiration cytology.

Parathyroid adenoma usually presents with the signs and symptoms of hypercalcemia due to hyperparathyroidism. Brown's tumor is the late clinical consequence of untreated hyperparathyroidism and is rarely seen now-a-days due to improved screening biochemical tests. These tumors are characterized by high orthoclastic activity and bone resorption.
