Article Synopsis
  • - The study explores the effectiveness of deep learning models utilizing electrocardiogram (ECG) data to improve the specificity of screening for pulmonary embolism (PE), addressing the issue of overusing computed tomography pulmonary angiograms (CTPAs).
  • - Researchers built a cohort of over 21,000 patients and developed three predictive models: one based on ECG data, one on electronic health records (EHR), and a Fusion model combining both, finding the Fusion model significantly outperformed the others in PE detection accuracy.
  • - The findings suggest that integrating ECG waveforms with clinical data can enhance the specificity and overall performance in detecting PE, offering a potential improvement over traditional clinical risk scoring methods.

A localized left atrial tamponade caused by left side pleural effusion is a rare finding that leads to hemodynamic instability. Here, we describe left atrial systolic and diastolic collapse resulting from left pleural effusion. An increase in intrapleural pressure by a pleural effusion can compress the pericardial space and lead to impaired cardiac filling and tamponade physiology.

Background: infection is an opportunistic infection that occurs primarily among immunocompromised patients, and the morbidity and mortality of this infection is high if left unrecognized and untreated. There are no clinical or radiographic characteristics typical of cryptococcal pneumonia, and its clinical and radiological presentations often overlap with other diagnoses.

Case Presentation: We present a case of a 25-year-old man from Ghana admitted for an altered mental state, weight loss, neck pain, fever, and photophobia.
