Free tissue transfer is a valuable surgical option for the reconstruction of a myriad of complex lower extremity defects. Currently, there is a paucity of data that examines the risks of complications for each of these unique indications. Patients undergoing lower extremity free flap reconstruction from the ACS-NSQIP 2011-2019 database were stratified into groups based on the etiology and indication for reconstruction.

Purpose: To evaluate the safety and efficacy of ultrasound-guided percutaneous thrombin injection for the treatment of upper extremity pseudoaneurysms.
Methods: An institutional database containing 8,316,467 radiology reports was searched for suitable cases over a 241-month period. Fourteen female and 10 male patients, average age of 69.
In hand trauma, the uninjured forearm has been touted as the ideal site for ectopic banking in digit/hand amputations. Here, we describe the temporary ectopic implantation and subsequent replantation of a partially amputated hand and highlight the "" - Recovery, Rehabilitation, and Revision over the first year of recovery.

Patients who underwent LE PF, FF, and AMP procedures were identified from the 2010 to 2020 American College of Surgeons National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (ACS-NSQIP®) database using Current Procedural Terminology and International Classification of Diseases-9/10 codes, excluding cases for non-LE pathologies. The cohort was divided into diabetics and nondiabetics.

However, GAS is often prohibitively expensive, particularly as there are inconsistencies in insurance coverages. Variability in hospital costs has been documented for other types of nonplastic surgery procedures; however, this analysis has not been done for GAS.

Background: Although gender affirmation surgery (GAS) can effectively treat gender dysphoria, it remains one of the most expensive components of gender affirming care. This study aims to identify the impact of financial well-being on GAS access and hospital course in the United States.
Methods: The National Inpatient Sample database was queried from 2012 to 2019.
Peripheral neuroregenerative research and therapeutic options are expanding exponentially. With this expansion comes an increasing need to reliably evaluate and quantify nerve health. Valid and responsive measures of the nerve status are essential for both clinical and research purposes for diagnosis, longitudinal follow-up, and monitoring the impact of any intervention.

With this expansion comes an increasing need to reliably evaluate and quantify nerve health. Valid and responsive measures that can serve as biomarkers of the nerve status are essential for both clinical and research purposes for diagnosis, longitudinal follow-up, and monitoring the impact of any intervention.

This novel study examines the impact of frailty on postoperative outcomes in LE limb salvage patients undergoing free or pedicled tissue transfer.
Methods: The American College of Surgeons National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (ACS-NSQIP) database (2010-2020) was queried for free and pedicled tissue transfer to the LE based on Current Procedural Terminology and the International Classification of Diseases9/10 codes.

Introduction: Fasciotomy is the standard of care to treat acute compartment syndrome (ACS). Although fasciotomies often prevent serious complications, postoperative complications can be notable. Surgical site infection (SSI) in these patients is as high as 30%.

Methods: An extensive literature review was performed to determine the most commonly used modalities, and their applicability, advantages and disadvantages.
Results: The review demonstrated varioius findings including decreases in operative time and cost with the use of CT angiography to identification of perforators for inclusion in flap design with hand-held Doppler ultrasound.
Purpose: Distal radius fractures are common fractures of the upper extremity. Whereas surgical outcomes have been extensively investigated, the impact of risk factors such as body mass index (BMI) and smoking on patient outcomes has not been explored. We hypothesized that obesity and smoking would have a negative impact on the functional and radiographic outcomes of surgically treated patients with distal radius fractures.

Few studies have compared the outcomes of operative debridement with expectant wound care and oral antibiotics. We performed a retrospective chart review of all patients evaluated at a Level 1 trauma center over a 10-year period.

Progressive symptoms can necessitate surgical intervention, yet optimal treatment strategy remains unknown. The aim of this study is to determine treatment options, surgical indications, and operative outcomes for Madelung deformity.

There are mixed data in the literature regarding the impact of previous abdominal surgery on DIEP flap success in breast reconstruction. With this study, we take a closer look at the effect of prior abdominal surgery on DIEP flap and donor-site complications, with a particular focus on the different types of incisions and their influence on surgical outcomes.
