All three drugs induced a statistical reduction of 5-hydroxymethylcytosine in comparison with the control group, performed by Immunofluorescence Analysis.

Improving employees' views about persons with mental disorders as potential workmates: A 2-year partially controlled study.

For many persons with mental disorders (MDs), having a job is a main life goal and a recovery sign. The possibility for these persons to enter the job market is limited by stigma. This study explored whether the participation of people with MDs in a job-training course would positively influence employees' opinions about workmates with these disorders.

Accelerate Pheno™ system in sepsis by Gram-negative pathogens: four months of hospital experience.

This study reports our experience with the Accelerate PhenoTM system (ACC) to guide management of patients with sepsis by Gram-negative pathogens. A diagnostic workflow, based on pathogen and resistance genes detection or ACC testing, was applied to 33 patients. Clinical and microbiological data were recorded, and analysis of broad-spectrum agents sparing was performed.

A proposal for a comprehensive approach to infections across the surgical pathway.

Despite evidence supporting the effectiveness of best practices in infection prevention and management, many healthcare workers fail to implement them and evidence-based practices tend to be underused in routine practice. Prevention and management of infections across the surgical pathway should always focus on collaboration among all healthcare workers sharing knowledge of best practices. To clarify key issues in the prevention and management of infections across the surgical pathway, a multidisciplinary task force of experts convened in Ancona, Italy, on May 31, 2019, for a national meeting.

Deciphering the mechanism of O reduction with electronically tunable non-heme iron enzyme model complexes.

A homologous series of electronically tuned 2,2,2-nitrilotris(-arylacetamide) pre-ligands ( ) were prepared (R = NO, CN, CF, F, Cl, Br, Et, Me, H, OMe, NMe) and some of their corresponding Fe and Zn species synthesized. The iron complexes react rapidly with O, the final products of which are diferric mu-oxo bridged species. The crystal structure of the oxidized product obtained from DMA solutions contain a structural motif found in some diiron proteins.

The safety of nivolumab for the treatment of advanced non-small cell lung cancer.

Immune checkpoint blockaders (ICBs) act by unbalancing the immune system, thus favoring the development of an immune-mediated antitumor effect. ICBs targeting the programmed cell death receptor-1 (PD-1) have recently been investigated in a number of advanced tumors, including non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Nivolumab, a fully human IgG4 kappa directed against PD-1, has been the first ICB to be approved for second-line treatment of advanced NSCLC.

Use of a novel autologous cell-harvesting device to promote epithelialization and enhance appropriate pigmentation in scar reconstruction.

Background: Epidermal replacement is an important step in the management of patients with post-traumatic and iatrogenic scars. Skin-colour variation from disease or trauma causes significant changes in self-image and appearance.

Aim: The aim of our study was to analyse the results obtained with a novel autologous cell-harvesting system (ReCell) for epidermal replacement in patients with post-traumatic scars that had not improved with any other surgical procedure.

Hypercondylia: problems in diagnosis and therapeutic indications.

Condylar hyperplasia is a rare disease that alters the anatomy of one of the two condylus of the mandible as a consequence of the abnormal growth of the interested condylus and results in facial asymmetry and functional problems at puberty. Both sexes are affected. Two cases were analyzed, including an active and an inactive nucleus.

Bone-anchored implant in cosmetic finger reconstruction.

The majority of the patients, who underwent amputation of one or more fingers or present congenital absence of some phalanges, can be treated by microsurgical reconstruction. Several reconstructive techniques are available, but in some cases the use of osseous-integrated implants to anchor silicon digital prosthesis is a valid alternative. We present one case, a 27 years old male, affected by congenital hypoplasia of the second finger of the right hand who underwent reconstruction by prosthesis and extraoral bone-anchored implant.

A randomized trial comparing ReCell system of epidermal cells delivery versus classic skin grafts for the treatment of deep partial thickness burns.

Background: Our purpose was to directly compare results obtained with the ReCell system and the classic skin grafting for epidermal replacement in deep partial thickness burns.

Materials And Methods: We recruited all patients with deep partial thickness burns admitted at the Burn Centre of S. Eugenio Hospital in Rome over 2 years.

Reconstruction of the nasal valve.

The authors present their experience with reconstructive nasal valve surgery, evaluating the effects related to the use of a composite graft, which is a graft made of skin and cartilage, or mucosa and cartilage, and to the transposition of mucocartilaginous flaps. A sample of 15 patients (12 women and three men) selected among 452 cases treated with functional and aesthetic rhinoplasty at the Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery of the "Tor Vergata" University of Rome was analyzed. Patients were between 25 and 50 years of age, with a mean age of 40 years, and were treated with secondary rhinoplasty for valvular stenosis.

The Maltese cross technique: umbilical reconstruction after dermolipectomy.

A simple and easy technique for reconstruction of the umbilicus was devised, with emphasis on forming walls of the umbilicus and a depression in a caudal direction. A quite satisfactory result was obtained. A permanent and sufficient depression for the umbilicus can be expected as a result of three-dimensional formation of walls.

Orbital reconstruction: bone-anchored implants.

The authors present their experience on reconstruction by extraoral bone-anchored implants technique, showing two patients from a total of 13, treated for orbital reconstruction. They were selected from 66 patients treated for reconstruction of orbit, ear and nose using this technique by the staff of the Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery of the University of Tor Vergata, Rome, Italy. They underwent orbital emptying due to cancer pathology.

Reconstruction of the nasal dorsum with autologous rib cartilage.

The authors present their experience with the correction of deformities of the nasal saddleback using rib cartilage grafts. They present a review of international literature on this topic, analyzing 33 patients selected from 452 cases of rhinoplasties performed between January 1990 and December 2004 at the Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery of the University of Rome "Tor Vergata." Nasal saddleback is one of the most complicated defects to correct surgically.

[Dilated cardiomyopathy secondary to idiopathic hypoparathyroidism in adults. Description of a case].

The authors report the clinical history of a 56-year-old man with cardiomyopathy due to undiagnosed hypocalcemia. Heart dilation and hypokinesia were assessed by echocardiography. Cardiac failure was refractory to digitalis preparations and to diuretics.

Comparison of methods for the biodegradability evaluation of soluble and insoluble organochemicals.

Pyridine and nitrilotriacetic acid sodium salt as models of soluble compounds and linear dodecylbenzene, branched dodecylbenzene, and stearic acid as models of insoluble compounds were compared for their biodegradability in three tests: the ODCE modified test and the Sturm and enrichment culture tests. The degradation of soluble compounds was measured as dissolved organic carbon removal and CO2 evolution, while for the insoluble compounds, which were tested only in the Sturm test, CO2 evolution was determined. The individual tests were characterized by comparing their results with those obtained in the others.
