Article Synopsis
  • The study compared the effectiveness and safety of FOLFIRI combined with bevacizumab versus FOLFIRI combined with aflibercept in patients with RAS-mutant metastatic colon cancer who had previously received treatment.
  • Results showed that patients receiving FOLFIRI with bevacizumab had a median overall survival (OS) of 14.1 months and progression-free survival (PFS) of 7.7 months, which were significantly better than those treated with aflibercept (OS: 11.2 months, PFS: 5.7 months).
  • Additionally, the bevacizumab group experienced fewer severe side effects (50.9% in aflibercept group vs 25.

Marginal zone lymphomas (MZLs) are rare and indolent subtypes of non-Hodgkin lymphomas, and their clinical behaviours are heterogeneous. The aim of this study was to evaluate the clinical and prognostic characteristics of MZL. In this multicentre retrospective study, we analyzed demographical, clinical and prognostic features of 64 MZL patients.

Background: Chronic kidney disease (CKD) impairs osteoblast/osteoclast balance and damages bone structure with diminished mineralization and results in bone restoration disorders. In this study, we investigate the effects of adipose-derived stromal vascular fraction and platelet-rich plasma (PRP) on bone healing model in rats with CKD.

Methods: Sprague-Dawley rats were separated into 4 groups.

Accurate staging is very important for determining the prognosis and appropriate treatment for malignant melanoma (MM). The aim of this study is to determine the effectiveness of positron emission tomography and computed tomography (PET/CT) imaging in staging MM. Patients diagnosed with MM who then underwent PET/CT metastasis before treatment were assessed retrospectively.

Introduction: The nose is the most common area where malignant skin tumors occur. Repair with a flap after tumor excision provides esthetically and functionally acceptable results. In this study, we aimed to present the use of an omega (Ω) advancement flap, which can be applied in all anatomic regions of the nose, in 2 cm or smaller defects.

Purpose: To compare the efficacy and adverse effect profiles of the first-line treatment of patients with KRAS wild type metastatic colorectal cancer (CRC) in Turkey who were treated based on regimens including bevacizumab, cetuximab and panitumumab.

Methods: This retrospective multicenter observational study involved a total of 238 patients who received chemotherapy in combination with either bevacizumab or cetuximab or panitumumab as first-line therapy for KRAS wild-type metastatic colorectal cancer. Patients with full medical records having pathological diagnosis of CRC adenocarcinoma were included in the study.

Cancer is one of the most common causes of death all over the World (Rahib et al. in Cancer Res 74(11):2913-2921, 2014; Silbermann et al. in Ann Oncol 23(Suppl 3):iii15-iii28, 2012).

Purpose: Almost half of all patients diagnosed with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) have distant metastases at presentation. One-third of patients with NSCLC will have brain metastases. Without effective treatment, the median survival is only 1 month.

Backgrounds: Pilonidal sinus is a common chronic disease of the sacrococcygeal region. Although many surgical methods have been described for treating pilonidal sinus disease, controversy still exists as to the best surgical technique. The aim of this study is to present a new modified advancement flap technique named "omega flap" for the treatment of pilonidal sinus disease.

Purpose: The present study was planned to evaluate the efficacy and safety of ultrasound-guided Pecs I and II blocks for postoperative analgesia after sub-pectoral breast augmentation.

Methods: Fifty-four adult female patients undergoing breast augmentation were randomly divided into two groups: the control group (Group C, n=27) who were not subjected to block treatment and Pecs group (Group P, n=27) who received Pecs I (bupivacain 0.25%, 10mL) and Pecs II (bupivacain 0.

Purpose: To evaluate the efficacy and adverse events with cetuximab plus FOLFOX administered as second- and third-line therapy in metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC) patients.

Methods: IPatients were administered cetuximab plus FOLFOX as second- and third-line therapy from January 2010 through October 2015. mCRC patients with wild type KRAS were alsï given irinïtecan and/ïr ïxaliplatin cïmbined with fluorïpyrimidine±bevacizumab.

Objective: Two different rat models for degloving injury were described in the literature. Our aim in this study is to compare these rat models to determine which one is more reliable and reproducible.

Methods: We surgically induced degloving injury on tails and left hindlimbs of Wistar albino rats (n = 8), and sutured the avulsed tissues back in their original positions after a waiting period.

Background: There are insufficient predictive markers for renal cell carcinoma (RCC).

Methods: A total of 308 metastatic RCC patients were analyzed retrospectively.

Results: The increased hemoglobin (Hb) group had significantly higher progression-free survival and overall survival (OS) compared with the decreased Hb group at 11.

Unlabelled: The bilateral V-Y flap concept for fingertip reconstruction was first desribed by Kutler. This method has limitations, such as flap size and advancement, therefore larger flap modifications are described to increase the advancement capacity of the flaps. We described a small direct-flow homodigital island flap method, called the 'super Kutler flap', for recontruction of finger pulp defects.

Objectives: To analyze the relationship between clinical features, hormonal receptor status, and survival in patients who were diagnosed with medullary breast cancer (MBC). Methods: Demographic characteristics, histopathological features, and survival statuses of 201 patients diagnosed with MBC between 1995 and 2015 were retrospectively recorded. Survival analyses were conducted with uni- and multivariate cox regression analysis.

Background: Most skin defects that require reconstruction with a local skin flap have a circular- or oval-shaped pattern. The majority of the skin flaps are planned in an angled shape. Therefore, it may be necessary to modify the shape of the defect or the distal flap border to minimize tissue distortion.

Background: Prognostic factors and the standard treatment approach for gynaecological carcinosarcomas have not yet been clearly defined. Although carcinosarcomas are more aggressive than pure epithelial tumours, they are treated similarly. Serous/clear cell and endometrioid components may be predictive factors for the efficacy of adjuvant chemotherapy (CT) or radiotherapy (RT) or RT in patients with uterine and ovarian carcinosarcomas.

Background: Small bowel adenocarcinoma (SBA) is a rare tumor of the gastrointestinal system with poor prognosis. Because these are rarely encountered tumors, the aim of this multicenter study was evaluation of prognostic factors and adjuvant chemotherapy in patients with curatively resected SBA.

Materials And Methods: A total of 78 patients diagnosed with curatively resected SBA were involved in the retrospective study.

Pincer nail deformity is the extreme, transverse, proximal-to-distal overcurvature of the finger, caused by osteophyte of the distal phalanx, and causing clamp effect on soft tissues and nail ingrowth. We report a new technique consisting of removal of the osteophyte causing clamp effect. Depressed areas of both side of the nail bed (lateral nail fold) were corrected with dermal flaps prepared from the side.

Patients & Methods: The survival rates of metastatic gastric cancer patients whose gastric primary tumor was resected at time of diagnosis were compared with metastatic gastric cancer patients whose primary tumor was nonresected.

Results: The median progression-free survival and OS in operated and nonoperated group were 10 versus 6, 14 versus 9 months, respectively (p < 0.

Most data on prognostic factors for patients with high-grade undifferentiated pleomorphic sarcoma (HGUPS) is obtained from analyses of soft tissue sarcomas. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the clinicopathologic features and their impact on outcomes specifically in patients diagnosed with HGUPS. In this multicenter trial, we retrospectively analyzed 112 patients who were diagnosed and treated at 12 different institutions in Turkey.
