Background: Currently, antimicrobial agents are widely used in both animals and agriculture, causing the crisis of multidrug-resistant (MDR) bacteria. In this study we surveyed for 4 important antimicrobial-resistant bacteria: extended-spectrum β-lactamase (ESBL)-producing Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae and Salmonella spp., and methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) from the environment around chicken and pig farms.

Background: Skin commensal bacteria (Staphylococcus epidermidis) can help defend against skin infections, and they are increasingly being recognized for their role in benefiting skin health. This study aims to demonstrate the activities that Myristica fragrans Houtt. seed extracts, crude extract (CE) and essential oil (EO), have in terms of promoting the growth of the skin commensal bacterium S.

The aim was to evaluate the performance of the fixed "end-on" -mAb-NH-TEG-AuNPs LFS in detecting . The proposed LFS enabled the sensitive detection of in 15 min with a visual limit of detection of 10 CFU/mL.

Therefore, we aimed to investigate and compare the calcium oxalate monohydrate (COM) lithogenic activities including COM crystal growth and aggregation under microaerobic conditions of and isolated from the same stone matrix. The crystal growth was analyzed at the delta crystal area while the crystal aggregation was analyzed as the number of crystal aggregates.

Phenotypic detection of OXA-48-like carbapenemases is still suboptimal due to their weak carbapenemase activity, whereas highly sensitive and specific polymerase chain reaction (PCR)-based methods take at least 3-4 h. We, therefore, developed a recombinase polymerase amplification (RPA) combined with lateral flow (LF) strip assay for the rapid detection of in Enterobacterales.

Staphylococcus aureus, especially methicillin-resistant S. aureus (MRSA), is an important bacterium that causes community and healthcare-related infections throughout the world. However, the current conventional detection methods are time-consuming.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFCarbapenemase-producing Gram-negative bacteria have been increasingly reported. Simple and sensitive methods for carbapenemase detection are still needed. In this study, a gold nanoparticle (AuNP) solution was modified by the addition of zinc sulfate (ZnSO) for improving the conventional GoldNano Carb (cGoldC) test, and the modified GoldC (mGoldC) test was then evaluated for phenotypic detection of carbapenemase production in Gram-negative bacilli clinical isolates.

We characterized MRSA isolated from August 2012 to July 2015 from Thammasat University Hospital. Genotypic characterization of MRSA SCCmec type II and III isolates were scrutinized by whole genome sequencing (WGS).

Objectives: This study aimed to investigate the association between demographic characteristics of canines and the presence of MAP urolithiasis in canines, and to evaluate antimicrobial susceptibility patterns of bacteria isolated from canine uroliths.
Methods: A total of 56 canines admitted for treatment with surgical removal of uroliths were recruited.
Vancomycin-resistant enterococci (VRE), especially , have been a global concern, often causing serious healthcare-associated infections. We established a rapid approach for detecting and vancomycin-resistance genes ( and ) in clinical samples using isothermal recombinase polymerase amplification (RPA) combined with a lateral-flow (LF) strip. Specific RPA primer sets and probes for (to identify the presence of ) and genes were designed.

The mechanism of vancomycin tolerance in hVISA is still unclear. This study aimed to investigate the fatty acid compositions of isolates under the stress environment with vancomycin.

Background/aim: We investigated the synergistic effect between vancomycin and β-lactams against vancomycin-susceptible (VSSA) and nonsusceptible MRSA isolates [heterogeneous vancomycin-intermediate S. aureus (hVISA) and VISA].
Materials And Methods: A total of 29 MRSA, including 6 VISA, 14 hVISA, and 9 VSSA isolates, were subjected to a microbroth dilu- tion-minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) checkerboard using vancomycin combined with cefotaxime, imipenem, or meropenem.
Objective: Choledocholithiasis (CDL), a potential risk for cholangiocarcinoma (CCA) development, is often a consequence of bacterial infection. Thus, the microbial population that contributes to CDL might also be involved in CCA development. We compared the microbiome in bile fluid of CDL patients and CCA patients.
