Sarcoidosis is a multisystem granulomatous disorder with a variable clinical course and complications. The relationship between sarcoidosis and malignancies remains unclear, including specific malignancy associations with sarcoidosis and whether the association is short-term, long-term, or a result of misdiagnoses or coincidence. This study investigated the association between sarcoidosis and malignancy by analyzing the varying intervals between the diagnoses of these two conditions to clarify their inter-relationship.

Background: Despite the well-established association between chronic inflammatory conditions and pulmonary embolism(PE), previous investigations of the relationship between Dermatomyositis(DM) and Polymyositis(PM) with PE were scarce and have been subject to significant limitations, including small sample sizes and failure to account for potential confounders.

Objectives: To investigate the correlation between DM/PM and PE, as well as assessing the impact of serologic status, myonecrosis, and inflammation markers on this relationship.

Methods: In this large, nationwide population-based study, we used the Clalit Health Services medical database and extracted all DM/PM patients who were first diagnosed between 1 January 2002 to 31 December 2018 and compared them with age and gender matched controls in a ratio of 1:5.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to evaluate the risk of seizures in patients with Giant Cell Arteritis (GCA) compared to matched controls in Israel.
  • A total of 8,103 GCA patients and 32,412 controls were analyzed, showing that GCA patients had a higher incidence of seizures (15.92 cases per 10,000 person-years) than controls (9.62 per 10,000).
  • The findings indicate that GCA patients have a significantly increased risk of seizures, which is likely related to the inflammatory state associated with GCA, rather than pre-existing conditions like stroke.

Fibromyalgia is a common musculoskeletal condition that affects up to 3% of the worldwide population. Its pathogenesis is not entirely clear but is thought to involve neurogenic inflammation as well as aberrations in peripheral nerves and central pain mechanisms. It is believed that the same mechanism that causes hypersensitivity and pain in patients with fibromyalgia also predisposes them to pruritus.

Article Synopsis
  • This safety analysis examines the occurrence of mucosal/cutaneous Candida infections in patients using ixekizumab (IXE) for treating psoriasis, psoriatic arthritis, and axial spondyloarthritis.
  • Data from 25 clinical studies indicated a low incidence rate of 1.2-2.0 per 100 patient-years, with most infections being mild, typically single occurrences, and largely resolved during the studies without requiring treatment discontinuation.
  • Overall, the findings suggest that the risk of Candida infections with IXE is low and usually mild-to-moderate in severity, with effective management strategies in place.

Article Synopsis
  • A study aimed to explore the connection between socioeconomic status (SES) and the prevalence of psoriasis found that higher SES is significantly associated with increased rates of the skin condition.
  • Researchers analyzed data from nearly 4.6 million patients, concluding that those in the highest SES group were 1.43 times more likely to have psoriasis than those in the lowest SES group.
  • The findings suggest a correlation between SES and psoriasis prevalence, prompting the need for further research to understand the underlying factors behind this association.

Background And Aims: Emerging evidence suggests an arrhythmogenic effect of Anti-Ro/SSA (anti-Ro) and anti-La/SSB (anti-La) antibodies in adults, potentially involving a subclinical intracardiac inflammatory process. Despite the established association between inflammation and ischemic heart disease (IHD), it is noteworthy that as of now no study has delved into the potential link between these antibodies and IHD. This population-based study aimed to examine the association between anti-Ro/La seropositivity and IHD in the general adult population.
