The nucleosome remodeler Chd1 is required for the re-establishment of nucleosome positioning in the wake of transcription elongation by RNA Polymerase II. Previously, we found that Chd1 occupancy on gene bodies depends on the Rtf1 subunit of the Paf1 complex in yeast. Here, we identify an N-terminal region of Rtf1 and the CHCT domain of Chd1 as sufficient for their interaction and demonstrate that this interaction is direct.

A PPKF can be treated both operatively and nonoperatively, and the treatment varies between fracture sites. This study aimed to assess the risk of reoperation according to the fracture site and treatment of the PPKF.

Previous studies showed that Paf1C is multi-functional, controlling specific aspects of transcription ranging from RNA polymerase II (RNAPII) processivity to histone modifications. However, it is unclear how specific Paf1C subunits directly impact transcription and coupled processes.

Thermokarst processes, increasing temperature, and changes in drainage can cause degradation of polygonal tundra landscape features resulting in elevated, well-drained, unvegetated soil surfaces that exhibit large nitrous oxide emissions. Here, we outline the magnitude and some of the dominant factors controlling variability in emissions for these thermokarst landscape features in the North Slope of Alaska.

We present Tetro-DOpE (Tetrode-like Drug delivery, Optical stimulation, and Electrophysiology) probes that can simultaneously record and manipulate neural activity in behaving rodents. We fabricated thin multifunctional fibers (<50 μm) using the scalable convergence thermal drawing process.

Background: Infliximab is increasingly used for patients hospitalized with acute severe ulcerative colitis as rescue therapy; however, optimal management for patients hospitalized for CD flares remains unclear.
Methods: A single-institution retrospective study of patients aged 18+ admitted from 2008 to 2020 with acute Crohn's flare requiring induction of rescue infliximab therapy.
The granular retrosplenial cortex (gRSC) exhibits high-frequency oscillations (HFOs; ∼150 Hz), which can be driven by a hippocampus-subiculum pathway. How the cellular-synaptic and laminar organization of gRSC facilitates HFOs is unknown. Here, we probe gRSC HFO generation and coupling with hippocampal rhythms using focal optogenetics and silicon-probe recordings in behaving mice.

We developed a thermal tapering process enabling fabrication of low-cost, flexible probes combining ultrafine features: dense electrodes, optical waveguides, and microfluidic channels. Furthermore, we developed a semi-automated backend connection allowing scalable assembly.

Background: Rectal prolapse (RP) typically presents in the elderly, though it can present in younger patients lacking traditional risk factors. The current study compares medical and mental health history, presentation, and outcomes for young and older patients with RP.
Methods: This is a single-center retrospective review of patients who underwent abdominal repair of RP between 2005 and 2019.

Nucleosomes are major determinants of eukaryotic genome organization and regulation. Many studies, incorporating a diversity of experimental approaches, have been focused on identifying and discerning the contributions of histone post-translational modifications to DNA-centered processes. Among these, monoubiquitylation of H2B (H2Bub) on K120 in humans or K123 in budding yeast is a critical histone modification that has been implicated in a wide array of DNA transactions.

Objective: To assess the proportion of patients from minority races and ethnicities that are included in colorectal cancer surgical trials and reporting characteristics.
Data Sources: Search was performed using MEDLINE (Ovid), Embase, Web of Science, and Cochrane Central.
A whole exome sequencing (WES)-driven approach to uncover the etiology of unexplained inflammatory gastritides has been underutilized by surgical pathologists. Here, we discovered the pathobiology of an unusual chronic atrophic gastritis in two unrelated patients using this approach. The gastric biopsies were notable for an unusual pattern of gastritis with persistent dense inflammation, loss of both parietal and neuroendocrine cells in the oxyntic mucosa, and sparing of the antral mucosa.

Our research question is whether quality-switched or picosecond laser is superior for the removal of eyebrow tattoos. This structured review was conducted using a PubMed search using the search terms "laser tattoo removal" AND "cosmetic tattoo" AND "eyebrow" with the article type filtered to "case reports," "clinical trial," and "randomized controlled trial" ranging from dates 1994-2023.

MET amplification ranks among the most common acquired resistance alterations and is currently being investigated as a therapeutic target in several studies. Nevertheless, targeted therapy of MET might similarly result in acquired resistance by point mutations in MET, which further expands therapeutic and diagnostic challenges.

Methods And Materials: Sixty maxillary right central incisor crowns made of a novel chairside CAD/CAM lithium disilicate and virgilite (CEREC Tessera) were milled for glazing and polishing. The crowns were divided into six groups: no polishing/glazing provided (NoP/G); glazed (GZ); glazed and polished with Brasseler Dialite LD Lithium Disilicate (DiLD); glazed and polished with Meisinger Luster Lithium Disilicate (LuLD); glazed and polished with Brasseler Dialite ZR Zirconia (DiZR); and glazed and polished with Meisinger Luster Zirconia (LuZR).
Background: Neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy (nCRT) is the standard of care in locally advanced rectal cancer (LARC). However, radiation therapy is thought to increase operative difficulty due to induction of fibrosis. Total neoadjuvant therapy (TNT) protocols increase the time between completion of radiation and surgical resection which may lead to increased operative difficulty and complications.

Accurate tumor staging is paramount to determining the appropriate treatment course for patients diagnosed with rectal cancer. The current study aims to re-evaluate the accuracy of pre-operative MRI in staging of both early and locally advanced rectal cancer following completion of neoadjuvant therapy (NAT) compared to the pathologic stage.

Water filtration is an important application to ensure the accessibility of clean drinking water. As requirements and contaminants vary on a local level, adjustable filter devices and their evaluation with contaminants are required. Within this work, modular filter devices are designed featuring an adjustable surface functionalization.

High-frequency oscillations (HFOs) such as hippocampal CA1 sharp-wave ripples (SWRs; 100-250 Hz) are sufficiently fast to initiate synaptic plasticity between assemblies and are required for memory consolidation. HFOs are observed in parietal and midline cortices including granular retrosplenial cortex (gRSC).
