Article Synopsis
  • Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) patients often require long-term non-invasive ventilation (NIV), but there's uncertainty around existing guidelines; this study examines health patterns before initiating home NIV and compares mortality outcomes among different patient groups based on their pre-NIV health.
  • Analyzing data from over 54,000 individuals with COPD between 2015 and 2019, researchers identified four distinct health trajectories, with varying initiation circumstances, comorbidities, and outcomes; notable differences in mortality were observed among the clusters.
  • The findings highlight the need for improved understanding of these health patterns to address inconsistencies in NIV use and ultimately personalize treatment for COPD patients.

Background: Minimal data are available regarding the prevalence and incidence of anemia among patients with non-dialysis-dependent chronic kidney disease (NDD-CKD) in France.

Methods: This was a retrospective non-interventional study of patients with a record of NDD-CKD in the Echantillon Généraliste des Bénéficiaires (EGB) database between January 01, 2012, and December 31, 2017. The primary objective was to estimate the annual incidence and prevalence of anemia of NDD-CKD.

Background: Granulomatosis with polyangiitis (GPA) and microscopic polyangiitis (MPA) are rare systemic necrotizing vasculitis. The national incidence and prevalence of GPA/MPA and patient mortality remain unknown in France. A real-life study using retrospective data from the French National Health Data System was set up to describe the epidemiology and demographic characteristics of hospitalized GPA and MPA patients, overall and by disease.

Benzodiazepines and z-drugs are primarily indicated for the treatment of sleep disorders and anxiety symptoms. Their frequent long-term use contrasts with the international guidelines that limit treatment duration to a maximum of 4 weeks. The objective of this study was to assess the frequency of their use that was not in accordance with guidelines in the French general population between 2007 and 2012 and associated characteristics.
