Early changes in postprandial gallbladder emptying in morbidly obese patients undergoing Roux-en-Y gastric bypass: correlation with the occurrence of biliary sludge and gallstones.

Background: Gallstones have been frequently diagnosed after Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGBP). Gallbladder stasis associated with duodenal exclusion may play a role in their pathogenesis.

Methods: Gallbladder emptying was studied before and on the 30th and 31st postoperative days (POD) after RYGBP in 20 morbidly obese patients.

Chronic hepatitis C: hepatic fibrosis evolution after ineffective specific treatment.

Background/aims: Specific treatment of chronic hepatitis C is effective in 50% of patients, improving the liver's fibrosis, necroinflammatory changes and steatosis. However, in patients still viremic after treatment the extension of these benefits remains doubtful. The evolution of the disease in this group and its relationship to demographic data, biometric indices and time lapse between biopsies was evaluated.

[Helicobacter pylori infection and its correlation with gastrointestinal symptoms and outcome of pregnancy].

Objective: The present study intended to investigate whether there was a relationship between pregnant women with dyspeptic complaints and with and without Helicobacter pylori infection in the first and second trimester of pregnancy.

Methods: H.pylori seropositivity was determined in 146 (aged 20 to 40 years) antenatal patients at 10 to 23 weeks gestation.
