Clostridium difficile is the major etiological agent of pseudomembranous colitis and is found in up to 20% of adult inpatients. The recommended treatment is antibiotic therapy with metronidazole and/or vancomycin. However, the recurrence rate may reach up to 25% and it increases in each episode.

Our objective was to evaluate results from endoscopic ultrasonography (EUS) for diagnosis of gallbladder microlithiasis in patients with unexplained (idiopathic) acute pancreatitis.
Methods: Thirty-six consecutive non-alcoholic patients with diagnoses of acute pancreatitis were studied over a five-year period.
Prospective endoscopic study of 150 patients revealed chronic gastritis in 109 (72.6%), gastric ulcer in 6 (4%), chronic duodenitis in 9 (6%) and duodenal ulcer in 26 (17.4%).
