The effectiveness of oxygen movement through pea seedlings has been assessed firstly by assaying for radial oxygen loss along the roots using the cylindrical Pt electrode technique, and secondly by measuring root growth in various oxygen-free media.It was found that roots would grow in oxygen-free 3% agar to a length exceeding 20 cm, but when such plants were removed to oxygen-free 0.05% agar oxygen could not be detected in the apical segments in roots longer than 9.

A 23-year-old woman gravely ill with Pseudomonas septicemia secondary to presumed drug-induced bone marrow aplasia received marrow transplantation from two male HL-A identical sibling donors. She had a successful engraftment with excellent but temporary clinical improvement. Subsequently she succumbed to graft-versus-host disease manifested by Pseudomonas and Candida albicans septicemia, cytomegalovirus pneumonitis, three phases of dermatitis, nausea, vomiting, dysphagia, diarrhea, fever, edema and bone pain, with gradual but complete graft suppression by the 74th day after the transplantation.

Mice receiving the same diet supplemented with fluoride reproduced normally and at consistent intervals. In frog sartorius muscles immersed for 2 hours at 26 degrees C in normal Ringer solution, the intrafiber potassium concentration, C(K)(in millimoles per liter), was 123 +/- 2 (mean value plus or minus standard error), and the potassium activity, a(K) (in millimoles per liter), was 90 +/- 1.0. The corresponding sodium concentration and activity were 20 +/- 1 and 6.
