Granulomatous lobular mastitis is a rare inflammatory disease of the breast of unknown etiology. Most present as breast masses in women of child-bearing age. A 29-year-old female presented with a swollen, firm and tender right breast, initially misdiagnosed as mastitis.

Biliary cystadenocarcinoma: an unusual cause for recurrent hemobilia.

Hemobilia is an uncommon presentation of biliary tract or pancreatic disease. The investigation and management of this clinical problem is challenging. We report on a case of biliary tract hemorrhage from an otherwise asymptomatic right lobe biliary cystadenocarcinoma and review the literature on this unusual presentation.

A free terminal ileal perforation from active crohn disease in pregnancy: a diagnostic challenge.

The surgical management of the complications of Crohn disease is often challenging. These difficulties are compounded in pregnancy by competing interests of the mother and the baby. In this report, we describe the presentation and surgical management of a patient in her second trimester with active Crohn disease who required emergent surgical intervention.

Background: Realizing the trends toward minimally invasive procedures, the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) increased the requirements for laparoscopic procedures effective 2007 to 2008. Our purpose was to analyze the trend of laparoscopic versus open cases.

Methods: We analyzed national ACGME general surgery operative log program data for basic and advanced open and laparoscopic procedures performed by graduating surgical residents between academic years 1996 to 1997 and 2009 to 2010.
