Objective: To evaluate the utility of neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) determined at initial diagnosis in predicting advanced disease stage and discriminating between active and stable disease in sarcoidosis.

Methods: A total of 465 patients with biopsy-proven sarcoidosis (age: 47 years, 70.5% females) were included in this retrospective cross-sectional study.

Objective: Differential diagnosis of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is important among fibrotic interstitial lung diseases (ILD). This study aimed to evaluate the rate of IPF in patients with fibrotic ILD and to determine the clinical-laboratory features of patients with and without IPF that would provide the differential diagnosis of IPF.

Material And Methods: The study included the patients with the usual interstitial pneumonia (UIP) pattern or possible UIP pattern on thorax high-resolution computed tomography, and/or UIP pattern, probable UIP or possible UIP pattern at lung biopsy according to the 2011 ATS/ERS/JRS/ALAT guidelines.

Article Synopsis
  • The study explored how inhaled corticosteroids (ICS) affect the outcomes of community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) and their association with mortality risk.
  • 172 ICS users had COPD and fewer reported symptoms like fever, muscle pain, and gastrointestinal issues compared to non-users.
  • The results indicated ICS use did not significantly impact hospitalization duration or mortality in CAP patients, but might reduce fever and other respiratory signs, warranting further investigation.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to determine the best antibiotic treatment for patients with community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) hospitalized outside of the ICU.
  • The research involved 621 patients across nine hospitals in Turkey, identifying common pathogens like S. pneumoniae and P. aeruginosa but showing low rates of pathogen identification overall.
  • Results indicated no significant differences in clinical outcomes, such as cure rates or length of hospital stays, among the three antibiotic treatment regimens tested.

A first case of endobronchial mucosal neuroma with sarcoidosis is hereby reported. A 67-year female patient, who was diagnosed as sarcoidosis previously, was admitted to our hospital with symptoms of dyspnea, chest pain and fatigue. Middle lobe atelectasis and endobronchial lesion were observed in thorax computed tomography (CT).

Background: Previous reports have shown that vaccination rates of adult at-risk populations are low in Turkey. There are differing reports with regards to the effectiveness of the influenza and the pneumococcal polysaccharide vaccine (PPSV23) on the clinical outcomes of community acquired pneumonia (CAP). The purpose of this study was to analyze the influenza (FV) and pneumococcal vaccination (PV) status, the factors that influence the receipt of influenza/pneumococcal vaccine and the effects of prior vaccination on the clinical outcomes in adults hospitalized with CAP.

Article Synopsis
  • Lung cancer is a leading cause of malignant pleural effusions (MPEs), with patients typically experiencing a median survival of only 3-4 months; this study aimed to identify prognostic factors affecting survival in lung cancer patients with MPE.
  • The research analyzed 199 cases of non-small cell lung carcinoma from 2008 to 2011, focusing on demographic and clinical data to estimate survival rates and identify key prognostic indicators.
  • Key findings indicated that elevated serum C-reactive protein, lower serum albumin and pleural protein levels, presence of distant metastasis, and chemotherapy status were significant factors impacting survival outcomes for lung cancer patients with MPEs.

Objectives: Community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) accounts for an important part of hospital admissions and health expenses worldwide. The cost increases when treated in a hospital, and reports on this issue are limited in Turkey. This study aimed to investigate direct hospital costs and factors affecting these costs for patients who were hospitalized in our clinic because of the diagnosis of CAP.

Introduction: There is very few data on the epidemiological features of interstitial lung diseases (ILD) in the literature. These studies on this subject suffer from limited number of patients.

Objective: The goal of this study was to evaluate the epidemiological features of ILD in Turkey.

Objective: Even though there have been considerable improvements in the diagnosis and treatment of lung cancer, the prognostic factors for elderly patients with advanced nonsmall-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) remain insufficient. Therefore, our aim is to compare the prognostic factors for elderly and young cases with advanced stage NSCLC.

Methods: The data of 370 advanced stage young (<65 years old) and elderly (>or=65 years old) NSCLC patients (Stage IIIB or IV) treated between 1995 and 2008 were retrospectively evaluated for the study at the oncology department.

Keratosis lichenoides chronica (KLC) is a rare chronic disease characterized by violaceous, papular and nodular lesions typically arranged in a linear and reticulate pattern. The etiology of KLC is unknown, but it may be associated with internal diseases such as hypothyroidism, glomerulonephritis and lymphoproliferative disorders. Herein, we describe the case of 44-year-old male patient with characteristic lesions of KLC on the trunk and extremities, present for 12 years.
