During the radiation exposure of the body, processes similar to those characteristic of the natural aging of mammals occur. This phenomenon is most often referred to as accelerated aging. By transplanting the thymus tissue, it is possible to achieve a normalization of food and water consumption, a stabilization of weight gain, and a significant increase in the life expectancy of experimental animals, even after their lethal irradiation.

Anti-Tumor Efficacy of Photodynamic Therapy of Solid Tumors in Laboratory Animals with Guanidine and Biguanidine Derivatives of Chlorine e6.

We evaluated antitumor efficacy of photodynamic therapy of murine Ehrlich carcinoma and rat sarcoma M-1 with new photosensitizers 13-N-(4-aminobutyl)amydo chlorine e6 (1), 13-(5-guanidylbutanamido)-chlorine e6 (2), and 13-(5-biguanidylbutanamido)-chlorine e6 (3). The inhibiting effect of the photodynamic therapy was evaluated by the following parameters: tumor growth inhibition, complete regression of the tumors, and absolute growth rate of the tumor nodes in animals with the continued neoplasia growth. The criterion of cure was the absence of tumors up to 90 days after the therapy.

[Possible approaches to increase longevity of experimental animals.].

A statistically significant difference in the cumulative survival of Wistar rats born in different seasons has been shown: animals born in late November - early December had an average lifespan by 24,8% longer, a minimum lifespan by 14,3% longer, and a maximum lifespan by 20,7% longer in comparison with animals born in April. The geroprotective effect of the technique of thymus tissue transplantation into the immune privileged anterior chamber of the eye in animals born both in November and April has been shown.

Regeneration of jejunal wall defect using an implant based on silk fibroin fibers.

Regenerative properties of fibroin implant vitalized with allogeneic bone marrow cells were assessed. The study was performed using the experimental model of rat jejunum wall damage. Three weeks after surgery, we observed recovery of all layers of the jejunum wall at the site of injury and complete degradation of the implant material.

Effects of allogenic fetal pancreatic tissue transplantation on regeneration of islet cells in recipient rats with alloxan-induced diabetes mellitus.

The linear parameters and number of Langerhans islets were evaluated in rats with alloxaninduced diabetes mellitus after transplantation of fetal pancreatic tissue to the anterior chamber of the eye. The effect of the allogenic thymic tissue transplantation in the immune-privileged anterior chamber of eye to the life expectancy of the recipient depending on its age was investigated. The thymic tissue transplantation from the young animals to the old ones leads to a significant increase in both the average and maximum life span of the recipient.

[Nitric oxide metabolites concentration in tear fluid and its prognostic value in development of early inflammatory reactions after consecutive intraocular surgery].

Dynamics of NOx concentration in tear fluid is studied before and different time after consecutive operations in various postoperative courses. Preoperative deviation of this parameters by 25-30% of control group was showed to be a risk factor of complicated postoperative course. It may be considered a prognostic criterion of early postoperative inflammatory reactions.

[Slowing down the rate of irreversible age-related atrophy of the thymus gland by atopic autotransplantation of its tissue, subjected to long-term cryoconservation].

An experimental procedure has been developed enabling to slow down the rate of irreversible atrophy of the thymus gland. The atopic autotransplantation of its tissue subjected to prolonged cryoconservation enables one to inhibit the aging of the organism with respect to several biochemical and immunological indicators.

[Use of small-dose Cyclosporine HEXAL in the treatment of postoperative inflammation during intraocular surgical reinterventions].

The effectiveness of small doses of the selective immunosuppressive agent Cyclosporine HEXAL (2-2.5 mg/kg) was studied in 112 patients with early inflammatory reactions developing after various surgical reinterventions (cataract phacoemulsification with intraocular lens implantation after antiglaucoma surgery, repeated antiglaucoma, reconstructive operations, etc.).

Role of CD64, P53 and P21 proteins in the pathogenesis of the tubulo-interstitial syndrome in Masugi chronic nephritis.

Experiments of 42 outbred male albino rats (160-180 g) showed an increase in the content of CD64, fibroblast growth factor, and proapoptotic proteins (p53 and p21) in the renal cortical matter on day 45 of experimental chronic Masugi nephritis. Lipid peroxidation parameters malonic dialdehyde (MDA) and dienic conjugates (DC) and antioxidant defense (AOD) values superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase, alpha-tocopherol were measured in the blood neutrophils and lacrimal fluid of 66 patients on days 1-2, 7-8, 14-15, and 21-22 after perforating wound of first, second, third, and fourth degree of severity according to P, 1. Lebekhov and in repeated injury, and the time course of these parameters during local treatment with therapeutic films with emoxipin and emoxipin + piridoxine was evaluated. A stable increase of MDA and DC levels in blood neutrophils, decrease of catalase, SOD, and alpha-tocopherol levels in blood neutrophils, and decrease of catalase enzymes and SOD activities in the lacrimal fluid of injured eye starting from days 7-8 are prognostically unfavorable signs.

Course of acute traumatic uveitis was evaluated in 146 patients with penetrating wounds of different severity in scores starting from the first days after the injury was inflicted and after operations performed in early terms after the injury. The inflammatory process normalized by weeks 2-3 in a favorable course, while in severe injuries and early reoperations and in wounds of the fourth degree of severity posttraumatic uveitis persisted during weeks 3-4, and 35.2% patients developed chronic posttraumatic uveitis.

[Clinical and immunomorphological parallels in posttraumatic uveitis].

Parallels between the clinical diagnosis, immunological parameters of the leukocyte migration inhibition test (LMIT) to eye tissue antigens (uveoretinal, lenticular, and retinal), and morphological picture are studied in patients with posttraumatic uveitis and consequences of grave penetrating injuries to the eye without uveitis symptoms. Cell sensitization to uveoretinal antigen is detected only in posttraumatic uveitis but not in consequences of injuries without uveitis. The authors come to a conclusion that only positive LMIT with uveoretinal or a combination of uveoretinal and lenticular antigens may be considered as an immunological validation of autoimmune posttraumatic uveitis.

[Clinical and immunological factors in predicting an early exudative reaction after extraction of senile cataracts with implantation of elastic IOL].

Clinical and immunological studies in 170 patients with senile cataracts carried out before and during the first 7 days after cataract extraction with implantation of intraocular lenses helped define the risk factors for development of an early exudative reaction: patients' age under 60 years, clinical signs of secondary immune deficiency presenting as infection syndrome, increased levels of nonspecific immunity factors with deterioration of the phagocytic component, T-lymphopenia, CD4/CD8 imbalance, and increased levels of interleukin-1 beta and tumor necrosis factor in the serum and lacrimal fluid.
