The aim of the study was to assess the involvement of submandibular gland in oral cancer patients undergoing neck dissection. This study reviewed the records and pathologic specimens of patients who were clinically and histopathologically diagnosed as having oral cavity squamous cell carcinoma, from the year 2018 to 2023. A total of 332 patients were included.

Human immunodeficiency virus(HIV) is transmitted sexually, through blood transfusions, sharing intravenous needles, and from the mother to a child during the birth process and breastfeeding. Most of the patients diagnosed with HIV develop AIDS within ten years if left untreated. HIV infected patients have a higher risk of complications than those who are not having the disease.

However, histopathological variants of conventional oral squamous cell carcinoma also exist, which range from highly aggressive to those with good prognosis. Here, we present a case series of different histopathological variants of conventional OSCC treated at our institute.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFOccult neck metastasis is the presence of metastasis in the cervical lymph nodes that cannot be radiologically or clinically identified. Presence of metastasis in any neck node can have a significant impact on overall survival of patients with oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC). Our aim was to analyze the correlation of various histopathological parameters with occult nodal metastasis in early-stage OSCC and to obtain an optimal DOI cut-off value for predicting its increased risk.

Distant metastasis of oral squamous cell carcinoma to skeletal muscles is an extremely rare entity and is an indicator of poor prognosis for the patient. We present a case of oral tongue squamous cell carcinoma that metastasized to the rectus abdominis muscle and clinically became symptomatic nine months after curative surgery of the primary.

EED, for example, manifests as complex structural and functional changes in the small intestine leading to increased intestinal permeability, inflammation, and reduced absorption of nutrients. Despite the importance of gut function, current techniques to assess intestinal permeability (such as endoscopic biopsies or dual sugar assays) are either highly invasive, unreliable, and/or difficult to perform in certain patient populations (e.

Schwann cells are responsible for the production of the myelin sheath around the axons of the peripheral nervous system. Benign neoplasms which originate from Schwann cells are hence termed Schwannomas or Neurilemmomas. They present as slow-growing, solitary, encapsulated, benign masses usually in association with nerve trunks.

Earlier reports from our lab have shown that Tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) significantly modulates the expression of 56 genes at the alternative splicing level which are involved in various signaling and metabolic pathways (MetS genes) connected to MetS. These MetS genes were predicted to interact with various RNA-binding proteins (RBPs) when exposed to TNF-α, resulting changes in their alternative splicing patterns.

View Article and Find Full Text PDFIn this report, using the database of RNA-binding protein specificities (RBPDB) and our previously published RNA-seq data, we analyzed the interactions between RNA and RNA-binding proteins to decipher the role of alternative splicing in metabolic disorders induced by TNF-α. We identified 13 395 unique RNA-RBP interactions, including 385 unique RNA motifs and 35 RBPs, some of which (including MBNL-1 and 3, ZFP36, ZRANB2, and SNRPA) are transcriptionally regulated by TNF-α. In addition to some previously reported RBPs, such as RBMX and HuR/ELAVL1, we found a few novel RBPs, such as ZRANB2 and SNRPA, to be involved in the regulation of metabolic syndrome-associated genes that contain an enrichment of tetrameric RNA sequences (AUUU).

We assess the effect of a complex package of health interventions on neonatal survival and the effect of out-of-school-hours teaching on children's literacy and numeracy in rural Madhya Pradesh.
Methods/design: This is a cluster-randomised controlled trial with villages (clusters) receiving either a health (CHAMPION2) or education (STRIPES2) intervention.
Europa, Enceladus, and other icy moons are exciting science targets, but our capabilities to adequately explore these planetary bodies needs to be developed. Gripping the surface ice may aid the stability and mobility of surface landers and mobile explorers that are sent to the surface of an icy moon. This paper presents an approach to anchoring into the surface of an icy moon using a heated pick.

Though studies have shown expression of TIMP1, EPS8 and AXL in cancers, their role in tobacco-induced cancers is not known. We aimed this study to evaluate the role of these molecules in oral and oropharyngeal squamous cell cancers (SCC).

It exists as four antigenically different serotypes that are further classified into genotypes with varying degrees of pathogenicity. The non-structural protein 1 (NS1) of DENV has an important role in viral replication and its pathogenesis.

In head-and-neck cancers, varied expression is documented and therefore its prognostic role is debatable.
Aim Of The Study: To find the rate of overexpression of HER2/neu in head-and-neck cancers and to understand its prognostic role by evaluating its association with nodal stage and overall stage of the patient.
Lipofibromatous hamartoma (LFH) is a rare, benign fibrofatty tumor composed of a proliferation of mature adipocytes within peripheral nerves, which form a palpable neurogenic mass. It affects the median nerve in 66-80% of cases, causing pain and sensory and motor deficits in the affected nerve distribution. Patients typically present with gradually enlarging nontender lesions in the distribution of the affected nerve.

Many of these carcinomas are slow-growing with a high recurrence rate. A distinct cytological diagnosis can be made, and metastatic adenocarcinomas are always considered as a differential diagnosis on cytology.
