Aim: The evaluation of the effects of resuscitation activity factors on the outcome of out-of-hospital cardiopulmonary arrest (OHCA) requires consideration of the interactions among these factors. To improve OHCA success rates, this study assessed the prognostic interactions resulting from simultaneously modifying two prehospital factors using a trained machine learning model.
Methods: We enrolled 8274 OHCA patients resuscitated by emergency medical services (EMS) in Nara prefecture, Japan, with a unified activity protocol between January 2010 and December 2018; patients younger than 18 and those with noncardiogenic cardiopulmonary arrest were excluded.
Objective: We investigated the risk factors for relapse or prognosis of eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis (EGPA) in Japanese patients presenting to our hospital.
Methods: From June 1999 through March 2015, we retrospectively recruited 121 patients with EGPA according to the American College of Rheumatology criteria. Frequent relapse was defined as disease occurrence at least once every 2 years after a period of initial remission.
Background: Acute exacerbation of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (AE-IPF) is a rapid and ultimately fatal condition, and no effective treatment has been established. Pirfenidone has antifibrotic effects in IPF; however, its efficacy for AE-IPF is unclear.
Objectives: To evaluate the efficacy of pirfenidone for AE-IPF.
Background: Maintaining high treatment adherence levels is critical for effective management of chronic diseases. The Adherence Starts with Knowledge 20 (ASK-20) questionnaire is the only linguistically validated patient-reported treatment adherence tool available in Japan. We conducted additional analyses on ASK-20 data from Japanese adults with asthma.

For clinical diagnosis, forced oscillation technique (FOT) measures airway reactance and resistance. By FOT, we investigated respiratory resistance and ventilation perfusion ratio inequality in adults with mild asthma.

Recombinant human soluble thrombomodulin (rhTM) forms a complex with thrombin to inactivate coagulation. It also inhibits high-mobility group box protein 1 (HMGB-1), which results in the suppression of inflammation.
