Background: The hybrid strategy of drug-eluting stent (DES) and drug-coated balloon (DCB) has been increasingly accepted for the treatment of coronary artery disease. However, data regarding the clinical outcome of this practice in a Southeast Asian population are limited.

Aims: We aimed to investigate the safety and clinical outcome of this hybrid strategy (DES and DCB) in the treatment of coronary artery disease.

Methods: Echocardiographic study of 50 male, female athletes (MA, FA) and non-athletes (MNA, FNA) age 18 to 30 years. These athletes participate in sports with predominantly endurance component.

Fibromyalgia is a chronic medical condition of unclear etiopathology that diminished patients' quality of life; chronic pain is the main symptom, yet patients with fibromyalgia struggle also with depression, anxiety, and insomnia. For many years, pharmaceutical management of pain was the mainstay of treatment. In the latest decade, conventional low-impact aerobic exercise and complementary and alternative medical (CAM) exercise have become important when structuring a personalized therapeutic plan, since side effects are practically inexistent.

Percutaneous Transvenous Mitral Commissurotomy (PTMC) is the first line treatment for rheumatic mitral stenosis (MS). We sought to evaluate (1) changes in 2-dimensional (2D) echocardiographic and strain values and (2) differences in these values for patients in atrial fibrillation (AF) and sinus rhythm (SR) pre, immediately and 6 months post PTMC. Retrospective study of 136 patients who underwent PTMC between 2011 and 2021.

Bactericidal Capacity of a Heterogeneous TiO/ZnO Nanocomposite against Multidrug-Resistant and Non-Multidrug-Resistant Bacterial Strains Associated with Nosocomial Infections.

The surge of medical devices associated with nosocomial infection (NI) cases, especially by multidrug-resistant (MDR) bacterial strains, is one of the pressing issues of present health care systems. Metal oxide nanoparticles (MNPs) have become promising antibacterial agents against a wide range of bacterial strains. This work study is on the bactericidal capacity of heterogeneous TiO/ZnO nanocomposites with different weight percentages and concentrations against common MDR and non-MDR bacterial strains.

Common complications of nonvascular percutaneous thoracic interventions: diagnosis and management.

Percutaneous thoracic interventions are among the most common procedures in today's medical practice. From the simple placement of a pleural drain to the ablation of lung tumors, the advent of image guidance has revolutionized minimally invasive procedures and has allowed for the introduction of new techniques and widened the range of indications. It is therefore imperative to understand the complications associated with these interventions and their management.

Enhanced protein-energy provision via the enteral route in critically ill patients: a single center feasibility trial of the PEP uP protocol.

Introduction: The purpose of this pilot study is to assess the feasibility, acceptability, and safety of a new feeding protocol designed to enhance the delivery of enteral nutrition (EN).

Methods: In a prospective before and after study, we evaluated a new protocol compared to our standard feeding protocol. Innovative elements of the new protocol included setting daily volume based goals instead of hourly rate targets, initiating motility agents and protein supplements on Day 1, liberalizing the gastric residual volume threshold, and the option to use trophic feeds.

[Annual assessement of a mobile ultrasonography service in the region of Ziguinchor, Senegal].

To provide rural populations with access to ultrasound scanning, a mobile ultrasound service was set up in the health districts of Sédhiou, Oussouye, Bignona and Ziguinchor in Casamance, Senegal. In 2001 the mobile unit performed a total of 56 missions and provided examinations to 1273 patients. The main indications were pregnancy assessment, amenorrhea, detection of pregnancy, painful pelvic tumors and hemorrhage.

[Economic contribution of gynecological and obstetrical ultrasound in an advanced strategy for the Zinguinchor region].

Aiming to strengthen the accessibility of ultrasound technology to rural populations, an advanced strategy ultrasound programme was implemented in the health districts of Sedhiou, Oussouye, Bignona and Ziguinchor all located within Casamance in Senegal. Within the first year of activity (January 1, 2001-December 31, 2001), the team from the regional health centre (RHC) was dispatched 56 times. Ultrasound scans were performed in the homes of 1,273 patients among which 192 were referred to the RHC for specialised follow-up and treatment.

Functional expression of IL-12 receptor by human eosinophils: IL-12 promotes eosinophil apoptosis.

In murine models of allergic inflammation, IL-12 has been shown to decrease tissue eosinophilia, but the underlying mechanisms are not known. We evaluated the expression of IL-12R and the effect of IL-12 on eosinophil survival. In situ hybridization demonstrated the presence of mRNA and immunoreactivity for IL-12Rbeta1 and -beta2 subunits in human peripheral blood eosinophils.

IL-9 expression by human eosinophils: regulation by IL-1beta and TNF-alpha.

Background: IL-9 is a pleiotropic cytokine that exhibits biologic activity on cells of diverse hemopoietic lineage. IL-9 stimulates the proliferation of activated T cells, enhances the production of IgE from B cells, and promotes the proliferation and differentiation of mast cells and hematopoietic progenitors.

Objective: In this study we evaluated the expression of IL-9 messenger (m)RNA and protein by human peripheral blood eosinophils.

Interleukin-9 enhances interleukin-5 receptor expression, differentiation, and survival of human eosinophils.

Interleukin-9 (IL-9) has been implicated in the pathogenesis of allergic disorders. To examine the interaction between IL-9 and eosinophils, we evaluated mature peripheral blood eosinophils for their expression of the specific alpha-subunit of the IL-9 receptor (IL-9R-alpha). The expression of IL-9R-alpha by human eosinophils was detected at the messenger RNA (mRNA) and protein levels by reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR), flow cytometry, and immunocytochemical analysis, respectively.
